2023 – Ava Bianchi

Ava Bianchi is the sister of General Hospital’s AnaSofia Bianchi. Ava has been seen on episodes of Game Shakers, Henry Danger, and Conan. More recently she has been seen as Kali Olson in the horror film The Unseen.

1. How did you get started acting?
I went to see a production of Annie at the Pantages with my mom and that was it. I knew I had to be on stage at that very moment. I was only 4 and begged my mom to let me be in a play. My mom found a little theatre in Hollywood and I think they were taken aback that I had just turned 4. Nonetheless I think they saw my passion to be in a play…specifically Annie and they wrote a cute orphan role for me named Buttons.

2. What is the first job you remember working on and what do you remember most about that shoot?
The first role I shot on film was for Adult Swim and was a skit named BroomShakaLaka with Randall Park. I was so incredibly scared because my on-screen dad Michael McCafferty gets blown to smithereens and had blood and missing limbs etc. It really freaked me out and in my little mind it was real. I remember crying not sure I wanted to do the scene. My on-screen dad even had a tattoo of my face on his belly for the skit. That was the only time I let my nerves get the best of me but I was only 8 and was freaked out by the blood and gore.

3. What do you enjoy most about auditioning?
I love self tapes. It was the one great thing that came from Covid. We can now do our tapes in the comfort of our own home and do it until we think it is perfect. I am really loving this aspect of auditioning.

4. How did you enjoy filming your episode of Henry Danger?
I loved working on Henry Danger. I was super familiar with the show, so when I got to be on it it wasn’t work at all. It was such a blast and the entire cast were so incredibly nice and great to work with. It was great to be cast by Krisha Bullock. I had booked some other roles with her, so I was flattered when she cast me on Henry Danger as well.

5. What was your time on set like filming Game Shakers?
I loved working on Game Shakers!! It was a highlight and I became great friends with Madisyn Shipman and her family. I think I did 4 or 5 episodes so we all really had time to get to know each other.

6. How did you prepare for your role of Kali Olson in The Unseen?
I really had to get into the headspace of Kali as Kali and I are really different. I just worked my lines and I knew what they needed. I just had to get into the space of an influencer type girl which I am the furthest from. I think it is really great to be able to create a character. It makes you stretch as an actor.

7. Do you prefer doing drama/horror projects or comedy? and why?
I really like drama and horror the most. My preference is drama on an epic scale like Game of Thrones or anything period piece. I feel like I am a more serious person that gravitates toward that genre. It is what I love watching most too. I love comedy as well but I think I am better with drama.

8. Which character that you have played has been the most like you? The least like you?
This is really funny but I have always played characters that were nothing like me. I did audition for Fantasy Island and I felt like the character was exactly me. They called to book me but I couldn’t take it because I wasn’t 18 at the time. All the roles I booked seemed to be so far from my own persona. Maybe soon I will book a role that feels like me.

9. What is the best advice you have been given while working on a project?
Less is always more. When you are acting, especially when the camera is close it will catch every nuance. Therefore you have to keep it grounded and small.

10. What has been your favorite project to work on?
I loved working on a show called Alive in Denver. The show never got picked up but filming one of the episodes was amazing. The director kept throwing more and more dialogue my way and I was thrilled. It was a really cool project but never ended up airing which is too bad because I would have loved to see my work on that amazing project.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
For anyone thinking about getting involved in acting I will tell them that it is a full time job. It can be fun but also a lot of hard work. You really need to study your craft and want it more than anything in the world. I know I do.
