2021 – Vivienne Rutherford

Vivienne Rutherford has been seen on multiple television shows and commercials since playing a Older Ariana on Days of Our Lives in 2014. Recently she has been on 9-1-1: Lone Star and been busy with with multiple voice over projects. Listen for her as Sam in the animated film Seal Team coming soon!

1. How did you get started in also doing voiceover work?
One of the reasons I signed with Osbrink was because they had an amazing voiceover department. When I was little I always watched behind the scenes of animated movies and I always thought that it would be such a cool job. I loved watching the Fanning sisters dubbing the Studio Ghibli movie My Neighbor Totoro, so it was so exciting when I got to dub a Studio Ghibli movie myself last year. The first voiceover job I ever did was Whisker Haven – the Disney Princess Palace Pets. I was in second grade, and I remember I was so excited but also really nervous to do it, but then I remember getting into the studio and realizing that it was extremely fun.

2. Have you been doing all of your projects in studio or did you do some at home during the shut down? If so, how did that work?
Well, recently I’ve been doing most of my projects in the studio but when the shut down first happened I was doing them out of the closet in my room. I have a little makeshift studio with a microphone and some acoustic tile on the walls which helps keep things quiet while I’m recording – but sometimes it’s still very stressful! I definitely remember one time we were getting ready for a job and it seemed like as soon as we entered the zoom call, the dogs started barking and construction started happening nearby.

3. Are there any differences in doing voiceover work when it is English dubbing compared to being the original voice?
Yes, it’s very different because I have more freedom when I’m doing the original voice – because the animation usually isn’t done yet, so I don’t have to match up to already made animation or match something another actor did.

4. How did you enjoy working on Myth: A Frozen Tale?
I really liked it because it was such a treat to go inside the Disney Animation building – it’s such a cool place – the front is a giant Sorcerer’s hat from when Mickey Mouse was in the Sorcerer’s Apprentice. The inside is amazing too because they have gorgeous art work hung up on every wall from all different Disney movies and all of them are different styles of artwork. There was one I really liked that was Moana on the beach, so I took a picture in front of it.

5. What was your experience filming for 9-1-1: Lone Star?
It was a cool set because we got to drive out to the middle of nowhere – out at The Disney Ranch – it was really cold the morning I filmed but the crew really took care of us – they gave us double warm jackets and put heat packs in the pockets to keep our hands warm. When we rehearsed, there was frost on the roof of the car, it was so cold.

6. How did you like working with Ronen Rubinstein and Natacha Karam?
They were both kind and funny, Ronan cracked jokes and made us laugh since we were nervous about getting lifted off the car. And I got to meet Rob Lowe which was exciting since I had just finished watching Parks and Rec. He was so nice!

7. How did you get into character for filming the role?
They brought the dog over to meet us so we could see that he wasn’t mean, but it wasn’t hard to act scared once we started filming because when he had the fake blood on him and started barking, he looked really scary!

8. Do you do anything special to watch your episodes when they are released?
I’ve always been self-conscious about listening to my voice or watching myself on TV but my coach taught me that I can always learn something from it, and that’s helped me feel more comfortable, but we don’t throw parties or anything, we just watch it as a family.

9. Which voice over role has been your favorite to do so far?
I’ve been recently working on a animated series where I play the lead character, and I love her so much – I can’t tell you about the show or who she is yet, but I’ve been recording episodes every week since April and I just finished the last one a couple of weeks ago. I’m so excited for everyone to meet her!

10. Is there anything you can share about your voice role in Seal Team?
Yes! Seal Team comes out on December 31st on Netflix and I play Samantha Seal! I’m so happy that it’s finally coming out because I have been waiting for so long to share this role with everyone – I started working on this movie at the end of 4th grade and just for reference – now I’m in 7th grade! She’s so cute – from the animation I’ve seen she turned out really adorable. It’ll be interesting to hear myself because it’s been so long since I did it and my voice definitely sounds different now.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Soon you’ll also be able to hear me in the new Disney Jr. Show Eureka as well as the Dreamworks show Madagascar: A Little Wild! But for now, I have a Science project about animal cells that I need to finish before I get to FINALLY go on Christmas break! I hope everyone has a happy holiday season!
