2021 – Raphael Luce

Raphael Luce has worked on multiple theatrical projects as an actor and doing stunt work. Recently he has been seen in an episode of Loki and look for him in the trailer for the next season of Stranger Things!

1. How has auditioning changed since you started in the business?
Before Covid, most of the auditions were in person, so we would drive to a casting studio which was often far from home. Once there, you would sign in and wait in the waiting room until it was your turn. Finally you would get in and audition in front of a casting director who records your audition. You only have one go at it. But since Covid, we only audition at home through self tapes. It means you film it by yourself and send it to the casting directors by email. There are some benefits of doing it by yourself like being able to perfect your audition, and redo it until you are really happy with it. You can mess up and not feel pressured by being perfect right away. Self tapes are a bit stressful for the parents who have to learn hoot do all this on their own…how to set up a good lighting, good sound…read with you…edit the audition…put it in the right format…send it on time (and you usually don’t have that much time) and if you have many sisters and brothers in the business…well, with school, homework, activities, food and all…you can imagine how stressful it can get.

2. What do you love most about being on set?
What I love most about being on set is being able to meet all these incredible and fun people. I also love seeing the cool props and costumes made for the movie. The sets are the most amazing to me. For example I was shooting on location at this creepy house and unfortunately when we came back a month later to reshoot, the house was not available. They had to build a replica of the house in a studio and when I first walked into it, it was unbelievable because everything was exactly as the real house. But most importantly…I love crafty.😜

3.What was the experience like attending the Atlanta Film Festival for the Moon Manor premiere?
Well, it was the first time I saw myself on a big screen, so that was pretty cool!

4. Are you the kind of actor who enjoys seeing their work on screen or the kind that prefers to watch all the other parts but their own?
No, I like watching my scenes…usually the show gets on tv sooooo long after I actually shot them that I don’t even look like myself. I can’t wait to be given bigger parts.

5. What was your time on set like working on your episode of Loki?
What I loved most about working on Loki was being able to work with Owen Wilson. It was really fun being able to talk with him. He is very talented and we had a good connection on set. I also felt really lucky being able to work on a Marvel movie. Hopefully this scene doesn’t keep me from working on another Marvel project in the future!😜

6. What has been the most challenging role that you have played so far?
Well…I must say…none of them have really been challenging so far.

7. Do you have a favorite episode of your family web series you worked on during your time in France?
OHHHH…we were just having fun and coming up with fun things to do and share with people online…trying to keep our spirits up and feel connected to people from afar. I had fun being handcuffed to my brother for 24h…that was so goofy but we laughed a lot. I had fun making the poker nigh episode too. One day I made a small movie (we are talking 1 minute long) called Ping Pong Fun in which we used my sister as a racket! Well, a crazy thing happen and to this day we don’t know how it happened, who did it, or how to remove it from there, but it ended up on IMDB !!!! It even lists Jophielle Love (my sister) in the role of “racket”! LOL

8. What was your reaction when you booked Stranger Things?
When I booked Stranger Things I was really happy because it was my first big role. I had heard so much about Stranger Things from my friends and I had watched a couple of episodes so I was very happy when I heard the good news. But I think the person who had the biggest reaction was one of my best friends who is a huge fan of the show. As I started watching the show after the fact, I understood why it was such a big deal to a lot of people.

9. Is there anything you can share about your episode?
Sorry I can’t tell you anything except to stay tuned. What you can see in the trailer is all I am allowed to talk about…soooooo Summer 2022!!! Omg…it is SUCH a long wait, it is unbearable! I started shooting my first scene with them before Covid!
