2021 – Jyllina Skye

Jyllina Skye has appeared in many television and film projects since her episode of The Neighbors. She has recently been seen in a Curacao commercial, and films including Neighborhood Crooks.

1. Now that you’re older how has auditions changed?
Since the beginning of the pandemic it impacted everyone, self-tapes are a must, but since they’re self-tapes you can’t do much in them because there’s limited amount of space. The pandemic affected a lot of things in the acting world for instance: you can’t work on a set without having a vaccination record, you have to take COVID tests every 5 seconds. Everyone is trying to keep everyone safe. In auditions they ask you to take a COVID test or ask for a vaccinations records. Self-tapes also have opportunities. You can play any musical instrument in a self-tape, it part of why I like them so much. It would’ve been hard to juggle your audition and you guitar in an audition room. Auditions has changed since I’m doing from home and I’m older but I personally think its better for more opportunities and I don’t need my moms help for much of the auditions anymore.

2. What do you love most about acting?
In acting there are so many things to love about it. The characters, makeup, sets, etc. For me I love getting to meet new people or seeing actors in their characters pov and their own or seeing how different they are from the characters they portray but still having their own personalities into their acting as well. I also really like the different characters I get to audition for, they all have different personalities, backstories you learn from them.

3. Have you ever gotten to incorporate your musical instrument skills into a project?
YES! I always seem to get auditions where I get to show off my guitar skills! Haha. My favorite instrument is my electric guitar and I learn new song every couple of weeks. So its pretty exciting when I get to audition with my guitar.

4. What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done at an audition?
Oh my gosh this was the first thing that popped into my head. I can’t remember where it was at but in 2017 or 2018 I had this audition where I had no information about what we were going to do in an audition room. I went into this audition room with a couple of other girls, we slated our names and got our picture taken. The casting guy was telling us what we were suppose to do and I honestly thought he was joking at first, I looked at the other girls and they just went along with it, then so did I. We were doing workouts and then had to dance or something like that. I remember doing push ups and burpee’s and then just spinning myself on the floor with my butt. Hahaha.

5. How do you balance high school, college, and auditioning/working?
Balancing all my school and auditioning/working isn’t easy and I’d be lying if I said it was. It’s definitely easier since I’m homeschooled. I can finish my school work any time I want but I just have to get it in before its due date which is always a Friday. I can also get it done ahead of time so I won’t be piling so much on myself. My mom is always surprised when I ask her if I do some of next weeks work on the weekend. As for college its just another added class, my teacher always checks in on me, I email her for help. Even though half of my “class” is 30 year old men and women.

6. What was your experience like on set working on your Curacao commercial?
Working on my Curacao commercial was so fun! It was even better when I got to work with my favorite person Dawn Noel. Dawn Noel is such an amazing person and she just makes the acting experience better. I’ve known her since I was 7 years old, I’m 14 right now. I know right 7 years is quite a while. On set she had to wear so many outfits I don’t even know how she changes so fast.

7. What was the best part of filming Neighborhood Crooks?
The best part of filming Neighborhood Crooks… This is tough everyone and everything about that film was so much fun. Though one of the tough parts was when they wanted me to ride a bike but I was too short (as always) so we had to improvise. The best part was when I had to wake up to my friends yelling to turn on the news channel but for that scene we had to make it look like I had just woken up. So I ripped my ponytail out of my hair, had blanket wrapped around me even though it had to be a 90 degree weather and head a light shine on me. I thought it was pretty funny.

8. How did you enjoy playing Young Alice in Trust Love? What do you like about playing the younger version of a character?
I really liked playing young Alice in Trust love, I don’t remember a lot from that day but I’ll always remember spinning around in my white dress. Playing the younger version was pretty cool, watching “older me” do her acting, I just watched. When I play younger versions of an actor sometimes it make me think, where will I’ll be or what I’ll be doing when I’m older? I guess we’re just going to found out.

9. What else have you been up to this year?
I’ve been focusing on my college, getting a head start in life. I’m actually stating my next college course in the end of January. I’ve also been focusing on my instruments more, and more.

10. Do you have any career goals for 2022?
For 2022 I want to dive deeper into my characters, understanding them more, understanding their stories.
