2021 – Aaralyn Anderson

Aaralyn Anderson has been seen on New Amsterdam, Dead of Winter and so much more. This year she’s been keeping busy working on commercials, voice overs and was recently seen on an episode of Evil Lives Here.

1. How has auditioning changed for you over the last two years?
Well instead of traveling back and forth to NYC I now get to audition in my home studio. I either self tape or casting hosts a Zoom session.

2. What was it like getting back into NYC to film your Bush’s commercial?
AMAZING!!! I so missed going into the city.

3. What are some challenges of doing voice over work?
Even though we have a booth in my home studio we still have to hold occasionally for the trash truck or barking dogs lol

4. Do you have a special process you go through when recording at home?
It depends on of it is voiceover or on camera. For voiceover I just take the script and a drink into the booth and turn on the lights. Then we do a clear the spit session before we start recording which is mainly just me making a bunch of noises. If it is on camera my mom prints the scripts and I just go in my office and figure out the character, memorize the lines then when I am ready I go in the studio and my mom records me. The rest is magic.

5. What has been the best advice you’ve taken away from being on a set?
Pay attention to everyone’s job. Thank them for being there and doing what they do. It takes so many people and so many different jobs to keep the set machine rolling. Also, be patient, flexible and prepared.

6. How did you react when you booked Evil Lives Here?
I was so excited! My first lead in an episode and a dramatic role!?! I was on cloud 9.

7. How do you prepare yourself for doing intense scenes?
First, I apologized to my scene mates for saying and doing what I had to do. Then when we went to set I just flipped the switch and became the character. They gave me video and photos etc for research in advance since the character I was portraying was a real life person.

8. Did you do anything special to watch your episode?
We had my friends and grandparents watching. Lots of my parents friends were also watching. We had snacks. It was cool to watch. I mean I know I was there but I wanted it to be good and wanted to see it. Really see it. person. MeMe was so funny as she was watching. She kept saying “I know that’s my granddaughter but that’s NOT my grandaughter!”

9. What do you love about being on sets?
Absolutely everything. Being on set is the icing on the acting cupcake. My mom always told me auditioning is an actors job and anything after that is a bonus. Being on set is exactly that!

10. Do you have a favorite project you’ve be able to work on the past two years?
I was really lucky to work alot over the pandemic. I am super grateful for that. Each job taught us new things too. I would have to say my favorite, gosh this is tough. I would have to say Polly Pocket for Nickelodeon. Nickelodeon sent the art department to my house and transformed our living room into an amazing Christmas wonderland! We had so much fun filming even though I was the only one in the room and everyone was on Zoom.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I really want to thank my team for working so hard during the pandemic to keep the wheels turning. For the casting directors and production who found new ways of bringing jobs to actors where they are.
