2019 – Eden McCoy

Eden McCoy plays the role of Josslyn Jacks on General Hospital. This year she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award, and when not on set you can most likely find her playing in a beach volleyball tournament or traveling across the country attending fan events for the show.

1. You have quite the busy schedule between General Hospital, competitive volleyball and being a teenager, what are some of the biggest challenges that come with balancing it all?
The biggest challenge for me is to stay calm and not get overwhelmed. Sometimes it seems like everything is happening all at once…like in one week I’ll have a huge exam at school to prepare for, a big tournament to train for and then 3 scripts to memorize. But if I stay calm and don’t waste any time, it always works out. I’m lucky that I have a lot of support from my family, coaches and teachers. It really would be impossible without that. And I always remind myself how lucky I am to be so busy.

2. How did you react to finding out you were nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award this year and who were some of the first people that reached out to congratulate you?
Honestly I was not expecting it. I was in the middle of class at school when my mom texted me the news. Of course I was shocked at first, but then thrilled and honored! I didn’t realize it at the time but I let out a little scream at my desk, and my classmates turned to look at me and asked if I was ok. When I told them about the text I just got, they were all so happy for me!

3.Fans across the country have had the opportunity to meet you and you co-stars at various events.Why is it important to you to do these events and what do you enjoy most about them?
Oh those events are too much fun! It is amazing to actually meet and talk with the people who watch the show every day – they always have an opinion and I love their passion and their perspective. I feel so lucky to learn what they like and what they hate about the stories and the characters – it can be eye opening and it’s always interesting.

4. You have portrayed Josslyn from her pre-teen years into her teen years and all of the drama that comes with the Jacks/Corinthos family and a soap opera, how would you describe Josslyn Jacks to someone just starting to tune in?
Joss is strong and willful and she both loves and hates VERY deeply. I think she’s really smart, but sometimes she reacts without thinking about the consequences. I guess she’s got a quick temper like her mamma. She seems to always have an opinion and isn’t shy about sharing it, and she’s trying hard right now to figure out what is important to her in life and what she wants to accomplish.

5. What would be your dream scene to have with the characters of Carly, Sonny, Avery & Baby Donna? What do you like best about filming family scenes?
The family scenes are the best! Baby Donna (actually played by twins) is ADORABLE. My dream family scenes would involve a big dramatic revelation or a fight, where some huge secret is revealed or someone is caught red-handed doing something they shouldn’t be. Seeing everyone’s reaction would be priceless, and the tension in the room would be a lot of fun to play.

6. You’ve had to endure a lot of emotional material this past year with the Oscar storyline, what would you do to prepare for the scenes and then bring yourself out of that emotional place once you were done taping?
For me it’s important on those days to have a lot of quiet time beforehand, where I’m just thinking about the scene and really stepping into Joss’ shoes. We don’t joke around on set on those days. Afterwards, especially during the Oscar death scenes, I would go home, take a long bath, and eat pasta while watching funny videos on YouTube. The tough emotional material takes some time to come back from.

7. The show has been busy developing the teens and recently tackled having Josslyn and Cameron getting drunk at the school dance. Are there any issues teens face that you would like to see the show tackle next year with Joss, Cam, Trina and Dev?
For sure there is a lot of drinking that goes on in high school no matter where you live. I think it is an important issue for the show to depict realistically, and also I’m sure at some point GH will be tackling other relevant issues like teen sex, social media, jobs, and college decisions.

8. How has your relationship with Laura Wright changed over the years and what has been your favorite scene/episode to do with her this year?
There are no words that do justice to how much I respect Laura Wright. She’s absolutely amazing and brilliant, and I’ve really grown to love her like a mom in real life over these past four years. She is ALWAYS there for me and she has a beautiful, generous soul. I could never pick one favorite scene…they are all meaningful to me whether we are crying or laughing. It is never not special sharing a scene with her.

9. Now that Ingo has returned to the show what has it been like working with him again and developing that father/daughter relationship on screen? What is the best advice he has given you?
Oh man do I adore Ingo. He’s just this perfect adorable and smart dad who always has a smile and is really really really fantastic at his job! It’s impossible not to love him! We are both really athletic and we love talking about sports, and he’s taught me by example that it’s important to balance work with family and fun. He is so good at that.

10. What have been some of your favorite scenes to do this year on the show? How often do you watch your work when it airs?
The most fun I’ve had this year were the drunk scenes at the Halloween dance on the Haunted Star. I don’t think we’ve ever laughed so long on set with the cast and crew. I also loved my scenes with Carly and Maurice where we’ve talked about grief and moving forward with your life after a tragedy. I really don’t enjoy watching my scenes, but I do try and always watch the dramatic scenes from Laura, Maura, Nancy and Genie. I can’t tell you how much I learn and am inspired just from watching them work! Their talent blows me away every time. If I could be half as good as they are someday, then I can die happy.
