2019 – Brandin Stennis

Brandin Stennis played the role of Charles Ashby on The Young and the Restless. This year he has been busy doing commercials for companies such as MGA and Jakks Pacific along with various hosting gigs in online videos for various toy products.

1. How did it feel to win a Young Artist Award this year for your voice over work, and what was the experience like going up on stage to accept it?
It was awesome to win an award for my voice over!!! This was my second Young Artist Award. Last year I won for my role in a TV series. It was really nice to win again. I was really surprised when I won. I didn’t have a speech prepared and I was so excited. It’s really fantastic to win and I thank the Young Artist Awards. I always feel that all the nominee’s are also winners.

2. What do you like most about doing voice over work?
I love doing voice overs and becoming the voice of an animated character. It’s really fun and exciting working in the studio.

3. You have met a lot of celebrities this year at various events, which one has been your favorite and why?
Well, all the celebrities I meet are special and wonderful in their own way, however, I would have to say Bert Ward, Berry Gordy, Stevie Wonder and Snoop Dog were some of my recent favorite celebrities this year. It was also a wonderful to be on stage performing this year with Raven Symone for nine live stage Christmas shows this December.

4. How did you like filming your MGA commercial?

I remember going in for the audition and enjoying it. Filming the commercial was fun and the set was really cool. I had a great time with the other kids, cast and crew. Again, honored the company used me to help represent their toys.

5. You have been hosting different web series for toy companies, what is the best part of being a host?
I feel really honored that the toy companies have selected me to host their product. It is also so much fun working with the other kids and crew. Toys and games are always fun to work with.

6. What was it like to film at Six Flags for Warner Bros./Looney Tunes?
I had tons of fun working for Warner Bros. as a Looney Tunes kid and working at Six Flags with the Looney Tunes characters and other kids. The funnest part of the day was riding rides and roller coasters as part of work. Again, it was an honor to represent Looney Tunes. I also had a blast doing Looney Tunes challenges with the other kids.

7. Do you have a favorite type of project to work on?
I would say commercials and hosting are my favorite types of projects to work on. I have over 30 national commercials and it’s fun to represent the companies and products. I also love live stage theater.

8. What is the hardest part of playing different characters for all your projects? Do you have any tricks to make them all unique?
The hardest part of playing different characters is not to break character. The only trick I have is to try to concentrate and stay focused while visualizing the story line.

9. Who have been some of the biggest influences on your career?
My mom of course!!! Actors that have influenced me, to name a few, are Will Smith, John Cena, The Rock, John David Washington and Melissa McCarthy. I do have several mentors that have really influenced me as well.

10. You have been busy lately shooting lots of different projects, do you have a favorite one that you’ve filmed recently?
Recently, this December I just did nine performances for Debbie Allen’s Hot Chocolate Nut Cracker and had the most amazing time and was able to sharing the stage with Raven-Symone from Disney’s Raven’s Home. Other celebrities that performed in the show were Ms. Debbie Allen, Nigel Lythgoe (So You Think You Can Dance), Jennifer Lewis (Black-ish), Phylicia Rashad (This Is Us), Tichina Arnold (The Neighborhood), Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy), Adam Shankman (Hair Spray, Rock of Ages), Taylour Paige (Hit the Floor), Ryan Phuong (Young Sheldon) and Tommy Davidson (Living Color). I also had an awesome time meeting Snoop Dog and interviewing him about his current “I WANNA THANK ME” tour.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I will be performing at the Wilshire Ebell Theater for a Don B. Welch play called “I’ll be Home for Christmas.” I’ll be performing with legends such as Marla Gibbs, Ernest Thomas, Angie Fisher and Shanice Wilson.
