2019 – Ashton Arbab

Ashton Arbab made his debut as Dev Cerci on General Hospital earlier this year with a handful of episodes before being brought back as an official cast member. His credits include episodes of Alexa & Katie, Mutt & Stuff, and he dropped his single “I Fall In Like Too Easily” this year as well.

1.How did you get started in acting and how has your love for the craft changed since then?
My acting career started when I was 6 years old, I joined a Black Box Theatre Group at Star Light Productions. I played Troy in “High School Musical”, Prince Eric in “Little Mermaid”, Link in “Hair Spray”, Knickie in “Grease”, and Joe Jonas in “Camp Rock”. I love being on stage in front of a live audience. Since then my love for the craft has changed with every role I learn and grow as a person. It’s about connecting and collaborating with other people. I take my work very serious now.

2. When working on Mutt & Stuff what were some of the challenges in filming with several dogs on set?
Being on Mutt & Stuff was such a fun experience to work with all the different dogs. I was surprised that there weren’t any challenges because all the dogs were so well trained and each one had its own unique talent. It was amazing to watch the relationships the trainers had with their dogs. My pockets were always filled with treats.

3. What has been the best piece of advice you have been given in this industry?
Executive Producer Marty Kroft from Mutt & Stuff gave me the best advice when I was 12 working on the show. He said, “no matter where your career takes you, always stay true to yourself, always stay humble and kind”. I will always remember those words.

4. What was the inspiration behind your song “I Fall In Like Too Easily” and what can fans expect from your music in the New Year?
The inspiration for “I Fall In Like Too Easily” is about how teenagers go through different relationships trying to find themselves and one week you like someone and then next week you moved on to someone else. It’s about falling in “Like” not quite love yet. I am very excited about the New Year 2020 as I have been working on my music and will be releasing another song in January.

5. Have you ever pulled a prank on your co-stars or have they pulled one on you?
NO

6. What has it been like to come into an established cast on General Hospital and bring a new character onto the canvas?
It has been the thrill of my life to be on such an iconic show as General Hospital. My first scenes on General Hospital were with the legends Maurice Benard and Tristan Rogers in Turkey. I was a street rat, pick pocket kid that agreed to help Sonny Corinthos find his son Dante. I had no idea that Dev would be coming back and finding his way to Port Charles. It is so exciting to get the scripts and see where the writers are taking the character Dev Cerci. It is an honor to be working there.

7. What have you learned as a young actor from working closely to Maurice Benard?
I am very close with Maurice, he is one of the nicest guys on the planet. I look forward to going to work and seeing him every day that I am there. Maurice has been kind enough to mentor me and talk to me one on one when working on scenes. I truly appreciate all the advice that Maurice has given me with his expertise, extraordinary talent and experience.

8. When you attended your first set of events for the show this past summer what was your experience like?Do you have any favorite fan encounter stories from the event or being recognized in public for the show?
The events this past summer were so much fun. I couldn’t believe that there were people from France, Germany and Canada that attended the event and come every year. General Hospital has the most loyal fans and they were very nice to me as a newcomer and looking forward to seeing where my character goes. I had the most fun performing Elvis, “Trouble” on stage in front of the fans. It’s been crazy since I’ve been on the show I get recognized everywhere, in an elevator, shopping mall, Walmart and even looking for a car a nice lady comes up to me and wanted a photo. It’s just amazing!

9. How has your relationship with Eden, William and Sydney developed since you started and do the four of you do anything particular to pass time at the studio between filming scenes?
We are all really close and enjoy working together. I have been friends with Eden since I was little, we use to perform at recitals together and we live in the same town. William and I have passed time on set singing and playing the guitar in our dressing rooms. Sydney and I are doing the same online school and are both in 11th grade. They are all so talented and it is a pleasure to work with them and be their friend.

10. What has been your favorite scene to film for the show this year and why? Is there anything you’d like to see happen for Dev in the coming months?
I would have to say my favorite scenes were with Maurice Benard and Tristen Rogers in Turkey. There was a lot of action, guns and a shootout. I got to jump into a dumpster. Lol! It was really cool and I spoke in a middle eastern accent. I would like to see if Dev has a family and if he is connected to anyone in Port Charles.
