2018 – Vivienne Rutherford

Vivienne Rutherford played an older Arianna on Days of Our Lives. This year she was seen on Teachers, she voiced the role of Rosie in Puppy Star Christmas and soon will be seen on The Orville!

1. What was your experience like filming your episode of Teachers?
It was really fun because I worked on set for a week, so I got to see the same people every day – and that was really nice. The set is amazing because they shoot it at a place that used to be an actual school, so everything felt real. So, when it was time for the kids to study with the set teacher, we actually sat in a real classroom! The hardest part was not laughing when Winslow did his speech about the life of Johnny Ravioli.

2. How do you enjoy working with other kids?
I like working with other kids because you get to be on set with someone, and you make new friends – and then when you see them at auditions after that, you have someone to chat with while you wait!

3. What was it like to film with Kathryn Renée Thomas?
It was really funny because in the scene we did together, she had to yell at me and some of the other kids – but in between takes she would always tell us, “GUYS I am really nice! I’m not mad at you!!

4. How did you react when you saw yourself on TV?
When I see myself on TV, it’s so weird because I’m sitting in my living room — but there I am on our TV! Also, since most of the time, it’s been so long since I’ve shot something – sometimes I look totally different. It’s also really weird because when you’re on a set, there’s so much wiring and cameras and sound equipment everywhere – so it’s odd to see it clean and nice without ANY of that equipment that you know was there.

5. Is it harder or easier when you’re recording your voice for a project?
It’s much easier because you have the script in front of you – and also since you’re in a recording booth alone, nobody’s really watching you, they’re just listening! So you can do whatever you have to do with your body or face to get different voices to come out of you, so I love that.

6. What was your time in the studio like working on Puppy Star Christmas?
It was so fun, especially because I am NOTHING like my character, so it was really amazing being that character for a while. The director, Robert was so nice. But it was different from what I’m used to because he sat in the recording booth with me – it made things so much better because he was directly interacting with me, which really helped my performance!

7. How did you enjoy attending the screening?
I LOVED it! It was so much fun – I got to meet almost all the people that worked on the Pup Star movies – and it was kind of funny because I’d been watching those movies – so I knew who everyone was! And I got to meet Kaitlyn who plays Tiny – who is my mom! And I really enjoyed watching the movie on the big screen, it was so fun to hear my voice come out of a yorkie puppy!

8. What is your favorite part of acting?
I love acting because you get to meet so many people and you get to go to so many places. And one of my favorite parts is when you book something and you shoot it – you’re on set with so many people, and you might get cool make up or hair.

9. Can you tell us anything about your upcoming episode of The Orville?
I can’t tell you too much because it’s not out yet – but here’s what I can tell you: I did my school day with a set teacher in a classroom that was the set for the school on the spaceship. I got to work on the Fox lot with Seth McFarland. And I had a really cool costume and hairstyle – but I can’t tell you what it was!

10. What else have you been up to this year?
I’ve recorded a few more animated shows – you’ll hear me in an episode of We Bare Bears soon!I’ve traveled a lot for fun – I went to Amsterdam this spring and Hawaii this fall. I’ve been working on songs with my voice teacher, and I had a little pizza party at my house so my friends could watch Puppy Star Christmas with me! And I’m really proud of myself because I won a Spanish award at school.
