2018 – Makayla Lysiak

Makayla Lysiak was seen on Parenthood during the fifth season. This year she has been busy with the second season of Mr. Mercedes, competing on the Brat series The Talent Show, and make sure you are subscribed to her YouTube channel!

1. What was the experience like competing on The Talent Show?
It was such an amazing experience and I got to meet other passionate kids my age while filming. It didn’t even feel like a competition at times because we all connected so well. We would all sing backstage between performances and goof around. Definitely an experience I wouldn’t trade for the world.

2. Were you nervous at all going into the competition?
I was extremely nervous because I had never done a talent competition in my life. I’ve always done scripted shows so this was certainly a step out of my comfort zone. Add to that everyone competing was extremely talented! But overall it was a great opportunity to try something new.

3. What inspired you to create your own YouTube channel?
Watching other YouTubers inspired me to start my own channel. I also wanted to be able to connect with other people my age and share different aspects of my life.

4. How do you choose what your videos will be about?
I usually base my videos on things that I’m interested in or what feel is relatable. And my fans also send me tons of cool suggestions for future content, which is definitely a plus.

5. How did you react when you heard you were coming back for season 2 of Mr. Mercedes?
It was actually a total surprise when I found out we got picked up for season two. My mom came to my school, brought me flowers and told me the amazing news. I gave her the longest hug and started crying tears of joy.

6. What was your time on set like filming the season?
It was a ball filming season two. I got to reunite with my favorite cast and crew members. Plus I got to meet incoming cast members as well as see cool new sets that were built.

7. What is the most challenging aspect of filming out of state?
Filming out of state isn’t really an issue for me but the travel definitely takes a toll on my mom. She does not like flying, like AT ALL. But the show made it comfortable by getting us first class seats each time we needed to fly out.

8. How has your character Barbara grown between the two seasons?
To me, Barbara has moored into a completely different person this season. I feel Barbara puts a lot of pressure on herself. She gets jealous of her older brother Jerome and feels like she’s living in his shadow. This burdens her and causes a spiral into rebellion, back-talking, and acting out.

9. Do you have a favorite scene you did for season two?
My favorite scene I did while filming season two was getting to yell at my older brother on the show, Jerome. It was funny to play super bratty toward him because its the total opposite of how we are in real life.

10. What else have you been up to this year?
This year I started high school and am adjusting to life as a freshman. I’m planning ahead toward future goals and really focusing on my grades. I am also making it a priority to consistently practice my craft and go to acting classes. I’ve been practicing new a new method for the past four months. I’ve been busy, busy, busy building myself up for success.
