2018 – Kenley Smyth

Kenley Smyth played a Young Ashley Abbott on The Young and the Restless this year. She has also been seen on Sharp Objects, and her film Destroyer comes out on Christmas Day!

1. What was your time on set like filming Sharp Objects?
It was so fun because I got to dance with my pretend dad who was really nice.

2. What was the experience like doing a video with your family for Buzzfeed?
It was one of my favorite things I have ever done because my whole family worked on it and we even got to shoot with our dog.

3. How did you enjoy shooting for Polygroup?
It was amazing because I got to make new friends and swim, which I love doing.

4. If you could work with anyone on a project who would it be?
I don’t really know because I like working with everyone.

5. How did you enjoy filming for The Young and the Restless?
It was great. I loved wearing the old fashioned dress and playing such a well known character (Ashley Abbott).

6. What was the best part about working with Samuel Engelen?
He was a great pretend brother and we had so much fun playing together.

7. How different was it to be on a soap set vs. other projects?
Soap sets are really nice and they run so smoothly because they shoot so many episodes. I had a nice dressing room and it was a great experience.

8. Did you do anything special to watch your episode?
My family and I watched it together and it was fun seeing myself on TV.

9. Who have been some of your favorite people to work with this year?
Nicole Kidman was my favorite for sure. She was so nice and I didn’t even realize what a big star she is because she was just like a normal mom.

10. Can you tell us anything about your character in Destroyer?
Not really but I can tell you the movie is going to be great and it comes out on Christmas Day.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
One of my favorite experiences of 2018 was going to Park City for the premiere of the movie Funny Story at the Slamdance film festival. I had so much fun playing in the snow and then seeing the movie for the first time (I play Belle). I got to see all the actors again too. The movie stars Matthew Glave and Emily Bett Rickards and will be officially released in 2019 after winning many awards at film festivals this past year.
