2018 – Alex Jayne Go

Alex Jayne Go played the role of Sofi on an episode of General Hospital. She has also been seen on American Housewife, Fresh Off the Boat and in the film Searching!

1. What was your time on set like filming American Housewife?
When I arrived on set, the place looked like a gigantic store. It was awesome. I almost thought it was a real store. There were a LOT of people playing shoppers.

I got to do school with Julia Butters (Anna-Kat), and chat a little bit with Meg Donnelly (Taylor). Both were so sweet. I noticed Meg went from brunette to blonde. Maybe she changed her hair color for the Disney Zombie movie.

2. How did you enjoy filming with Katy Mixon?
My family and I watch American Housewife. It was wonderful to meet the actors. I love hearing Katy’s special voice in person. Greeggg!! Lol.

Katy Mixon (Katie), Diedrich Bader (Greg), Leslie Bibb (Viv), and I were in the same scene, so we practiced a few times together with Director Melissa Kosar.

Everyone was very welcoming. Our director was fantastic. We shot so fast that I actually did not meet Ali Wong. 🙁 Hopefully, I’ll get to meet Ali in the future. 😉

3. Which do you enjoy more, acting in a drama or a comedy?
It’s the same for me, since sometimes I have to be really serious in a comedy scene. And sometimes, I have to be silly and smile a lot for a drama. I enjoy both. But the part that is most fun for me is trying on different outfits with the wardrobe team.

4. How did you react when you heard you booked General Hospital?
Happy dance!! The script said I get to paint. I love to paint, so I was excited. Also, General Hospital is extra special because the show has been on TV even before my parents moved to this country.

5. What was it like working with Roger Howarth?
It was fun to paint with Roger (Franco). But I didn’t realize that General Hospital airs five times a week. That’s a lot of shows to shoot! Most shows are only on once a week. These actors have so many pages to memorize. Then they had to move quickly onto the next scene. But when Roger had a break, we took a quick photo together. It was also fabulous to meet Carolyn Hennesy, who plays Mrs. Rhoda Chesterfield on Disney’s Jessie.

6. What was the best part of working on your film Searching?
Jumping on the bed to wake up John Cho (David Kim) was fun. But the best part was when my family and I went to the Sundance Film Festival in Utah to see the world premiere screening of Searching, and then waking up the next day to hear that Searching was going to be in movie theaters all over the world because of Sony.

7. How different was it to film using phones and computers?
Most of our part was in full video, like when I was playing the piano or jumping on the bed. But when I was Skyping with John Cho (David Kim), I just had to make sure I looked at the right spot. But it was not that different.

8. What was the experience like attending the premiere?
I love it. It was good to see old friends, dress up, and celebrate together. We did not plan it at all, but Kya Dawn Lau, Megan Liu and I were dressed in similar pink sparkly dresses. Michelle La (who played teenage Margot) was wearing this amazing red outfit, and she was joking that she didn’t get the memo about wearing pink!

Afterwards, people asked to take photos with me, and they said that Searching was the best movie they’ve seen all year. I feel really lucky to be a part of this movie.

9. Which actor or actress have you most enjoyed working with?
So far everyone has been kind, talented and very professional. But Tone Bell (Dog Days; Truth be Told) was so funny and so patient, he was like a real-life cool uncle.
After one of our shoots, I opened a giant My Little Pony map and showed him my collection, and he patiently listened to every My Little Pony name, character, and cutie mark… for a looooong time! 😉

10. What has been your favorite project to work on so far?
I think working on Teachers is my favorite, because my line for that show was really funny. The women on the show act like they are crazy teachers. But behind-the-scenes, they were all in charge of the scripts… they had to think about the shots… they had to plan our surprise guest (you’ll have to watch it to find out). The teachers were smart, beautiful, kind, and not crazy at all. They were really nice.
