Sienna Mercuri plays the role of Katie Newman on The Young and the Restless. To keep up to date make sure to keep checking back here at the site.

1. How did Sienna get into the industry?

People were telling me she was a cute baby, so I submitted some professional pictures to some talent agencies, had an interview and then offered representation, plus I knew the business pretty well since I studied to be an actress in college, lived in Los Angeles and pursued it for many years. I am in SAG-AFTRA myself, so I researched franchised agents. Sienna booked her very first audition when she was 18 months old, an Intel commercial. She had a couple of print jobs, but then booked the role as “Katie” as a possible recurring role-not ever auditioning for any TV shows before. So this was very exciting to get this wonderful role.

2. What has Sienna’s experience been like working on The Young and the Restless?

Sienna’s reply to this when asked, “I like the girl who plays my Mom”.

So far, I feel like Sienna has adapted well to her role as “Katie Newman Abbott” She is having fun and enjoys acting with Ryan and Holden (“Johnny”) When we film its pretty quick and easy going. I know that that is not always the case in TV so we have had a positive experience and are very thankful.

3. What was her first day on set like?

Sienna’s response to this was “I think it was awesome sauce!”

I was very nervous but Sienna had to paint in one scene and eat cookies in another with “Johnny” her TV brother-so it was a pretty easy first day. Everyone was so professional, engaging and nice to Sienna and I. We really had a warm welcome from the cast and crew! Sienna really hit it off with Ryan and Holden (“Johnny”) and I believe she has had great chemistry with them.

4. How do you feel seeing her first episode air?

It was exciting not knowing how it would turn out. But Sienna & I watched it live from home by ourselves, then later on with family & friends. I was very proud of her and really felt like she was natural, she seems to be very comfortable on the set.

5. What is it like filming with Jason Thompson?

Sienna says “He is a good actor and she really likes him”, I would say that she is just smitten over him as well as her real mother. Hee-hee. But seriously, he is very personable, he always makes a point to say “Hello”, joke around, and really engages with the kids, improvises well with them, guides them through the scene.

6. How does she enjoy working with Amelia Heinle?

Sienna says “I enjoy working with her because I love her!”

Amelia is down to earth, very sweet to Sienna and treats her like her own.

7. What has the experience been like working with Eric Braeden?

Sienna says, “He really is a good Grandpa and in real life too!”

He is very sweet with Sienna and she seemed to hit it off with him too. He has a great presence, you know you are working with the best-I used to watch him when I was a teen on this show! “Victor rules!”

8. How does Sienna like filming with Ryan and Holden?

Sienna replies, “I really love them, they are brothers and I wish I could be their sister” (she is an only child btw) She is always excited to see them and play with them in between scenes. She is sort of a Tomboy-definitely likes to keep up with them and do whatever they are doing.

9. Is there anyone in the cast you hope she has a chance to work with?

She really looks up to Aly (“Faith”) I see that she is a great actress and started on the show around the same age as Sienna (4 years old). She is so good with all of the kids on the show, I think Sienna could learn a lot from her. Also I hope Sienna can work more closely with Melody Scott Thomas (her character’s grandmother Nikki) I know she was a child actress herself, and Sienna could learn a lot from her as well.

10. What has been your favorite scene that she has done so far?

I loved the upcoming Christmas scenes she recently filmed. But I guess I can’t elaborate because it hasn’t aired yet. Sienna when asked said the same, the Christmas scene that you will see, but also enjoyed the Halloween Coffee shop scene when her and “Johnny” got to eat lots of real candy. Ha! Go figure.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Sienna said she wanted to add that “I really love acting”- and no Mom did not put her up to that. 😉 She seems to get it- She understands that she has a pretend TV family & follows direction well-I stay away from her when she films, I watch on the monitor with the other Mom(s). Jason, Amelia, and Michael (“Travis”) whom she does most her scenes with improvise with her and “Johnny” and they really go with the flow of the scenes. We are having a good time and feel very blessed for the opportunity to work with such a great cast and crew on “The Young And The Restless”.

We’d like to thank Sienna and her family for participating in our Holiday Q&A Event!
