2016 – Jyllina Skye Rodriguez

 

Jyllina Skye Rodriguez filmed an episode of The Neighbors. She has been seen in multiple commercials, the short film 22 Years and more! To keep up to date make sure to follow her on Twitter and Instagram.

 

1. What was your time on set like working on The Neighbors?

It was a lot of fun, it was one of the first TV shows I worked on. I was so surprised at all the food they had, I didn’t know what to choose first.

2. What was it like filming for Manson Lost Girls?

Dirty! Hahaha the makeup artists put rocks, well…pebbles really, in my hair and put dark brown dirt makeup all over me. They told my dad that my mom wasn’t allowed to wash my hair because they needed me to stay dirty. I was on set for seven days and everyday was a different adventure. One day I wore boys underwear and a tank top it was hilarious! We filmed on a beach in Malibu and at Paramount Ranch. I didn’t get to watch the whole movie but my mom and dad let me see my scenes.

3. How did you enjoy working on your McDonald’s commercial?

I loved everything about it, even the wardrobe fitting, trying on tons of different outfits. I got to represent the purple my little pony and wear purple hair extensions. They had me do some voiceover for them to play during the commercial.

4. What was the best part of working on your Burger King commercial?

The best part was when I was standing by the counter about to tell the cashier my “fake” order and she started doing kung fu. The directors wanted my real reaction so I had no idea that she was going to do that. I was so surprised I started laughing.

5. How do you feel when you see your work air on TV?

I get really excited to finally get to see the finished project. You work so hard to stay true to the vision of the project and to see it all come together its really exciting. I really enjoy watching everyone else’s scenes too and seeing those come to life. I filmed a Chevrolet commercial and while I was sitting in a makeup chair the lady next to me was getting her Zombie makeup put on, it was cool to watch her transform and then see her part of the commercial air during the Walking Dead. The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead are two of my favorite shows hehe. During the commercial I got to hold a GINORMOUS bouquet of balloons and I felt like I was going to float away. Every time it aired my grandparents were screaming in their room.

6. What was the experience working on 22 Years?

It’s my most memorable experience to date. 22 years is a true story about a young girl who’s father leaves after a fight with her mom because he was drinking. She grew up without her dad and now he’s reached out to her after 22 years. It’s a really sad story. I cried at the end. It was such an honor to be selected to play young Avi and play that moment when her dad leaves.

7. How did you prepare for your role?

I got to meet the cast when we filmed our shots for the movie posters, so I got to spend time and get to know them. I read the script over and over and over again and asked questions to learn more about my characters part. I wanted to know the whole story inside and out, not just my parts. I wanted to understand how it would feel if that was me and my dad had left. I wanted to be sure I was portraying the role the right way. Then, we had the table read before filming and I got to practice my parts with the cast.

8. What was it like attending the Imagen Awards for the film?

It was sooooo exciting! It was my first award show. I got to go inside without my parents, I was with the cast of course, they took great care of me and my parents were right outside. I got to meet one of my favorite actresses Jenna Ortega.

9. Who have been some of your favorite people to work with?

Dawn Noel and the cast of 22 years. Dawn is an amazing strong woman and I really look up to her. She is a great role model and works hard at everything she does and achieves.

I got to meet Rosario Dawson on the set of Unforgettable, she is super nice. I ride English (horseback) and I was hired to be in a riding scene. But I really just love making new friends on every set that I’m on. Sometimes those friends stay with you and you get to see them outside of set life and then sometimes you get to see the people you work with out at auditions. It’s always fun to recognize people you’ve worked with on TV.

10. What has been your favorite project to work on?

Definitely 22 years! The entire cast is just amazing and stays in touch and is really really supportive. I just finished filming Trust Love with some of the same people from 22 years so it was really nice to see them again plus meet new people. I play young Alice. I also just finished filming The Sonata, it is a very different kind of role for me. I am playing a sick child so it’s a pretty serious role. I guess I really love all the characters I get to play, its way to hard to pick just one.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would do this everyday if I could. I really love what I do and I hope I can be a role model one day and help other kids follow their dreams.
