AJ Hudson was seen in an episode of The Neighbors. This year he has been seen on Pure Genius, in commercials for Chrysler and more! To keep up to date make sure to like his page on Facebook, follow him on Twitter and follow him on Instagram.

1. How did you get started acting?

We had meant to start acting around 5 years old but just didn’t know where to start. One day after church someone stopped us in Walmart in Duarte, CA and asked if I acted. My parents said no but we want to get him into it. They invited us out to a showcase later that day at the Doubletree Hotel. I killed it and they invited me to Gary Spatz’s The Playground. We didn’t enroll though because it cost too much money. But it got my dad started in the process. Getting pictures taken, signing up for casting websites and mailing out my comp cards to a bunch of different agencies. No one ever responded. LOL.

What was your first booking?

My first booking was a short film called Angels Among Us. Me and my dad actually were in it. It’s not the only thing we have been in together.

2. How do you prepare for an audition?

Well before I started going to James Marshall of the Marshall Studios, my dad would break down the script for me and help set the scene like time, place, people, my relation to other parties in scene etc etc. I would memorize the lines without any emotion, unless it said how to play it, so that way when I get to audition I can put in what ever emotion they say.

3. What was your experience like filming for The Neighbors?

The Neighbors was actually my first SAG role. Very interesting story, I was doing background but the girl who had the line wasn’t delivering and we were losing daylight. The 1st AD comes over and asks who can yell really loud. In sports my dad has always taught me to raise my hand and get to the front of the line whenever doing drills. So this was the same to me. I raised my hand. He had me and another kid scream and he chose me! And that’s when I became SAG Eligible. Just like like! It was a Halloween episode called Challoweenakuh. Which is combination of Halloween and Hanukkah (candy and presents for 8 days lol) . It was shot at a park in VanNuys California.

4. What was the best part of filming the Chrysler Pacifica commercials?

Oh man this was so much fun because it was unscripted and a live environment. The families were coming in thinking there were coming to a focus group about the Pacifica. But upon getting there they were greeted by us “Pacifikids” running the dealership. We took over the entire thing. I was general manager of my group and I got to slide down a slide from the 2nd floor into a ball pit! Who wouldn’t love that!

5. Do you have any funny stories from filming the commercials?

In the Pacifikids the first couple of times that I slid into the ball pit I couldn’t get out! It took me a couple minutes to get out! then after a few times of doing it I saw there was a rope that was intended for us to use! Lol. I wish someone would have told me sooner! Also if you get a chance to see it, after we made a sale there is a loud confetti explosion that we didn’t know was going to happen and it startled us! You can see me jump and look up like WHAT WAS THAT! Then I started dancing and singing “we got a buyer”

6. How did you enjoy filming your episode of Pure Genius?

Pure Genius was amazing to shoot! I mean the episode is about me! I got a lay underneath a car like I was being smashed! I had fake legs made too for when I had to go into surgery! I got to lay in a coffin type bed with the fake legs on top and they cut it open. It was so cool! Unfortunately the show was not picked up for the 2nd half of season. But everyone said I did really well! You guys need to hop over to CBS and watch it! Episode 2.

7. What was your experience like doing voice over work for Barbie: Dreamtopia?

I really enjoy doing voice over work! I play Jace in the Dreamtopia series. It’s a cute little series. I can’t want for it to blow up! Voice is fun because he can act truly silly. But it takes a little bit more acting because you usually have nothing to look at. You have to pull it from within.

8. What was your time on set like filming your Nike commercial?

Nike was so cool! I mean it’s Nike and LeBron James and basketball! We got to play basketball. Not much but enough that it didn’t feel like work! Ya know! You can see that commercial on NBA2K17 as well as tv across the world! Yes it is an international commercial.

9. Who have been some of your favorite people to work with?

Mr. Danny DeVito, Charlie Day, Jamal Mixon aka Hercules while shooting It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. And all the cast of Pure Genius they were truly a blessing. EVERYONE was so nice and very talented!

10. What has been your favorite project to work on?

It is easily Chrysler Pacifikids. Working with kids my age was fun. And having no script I was able to just improv! Which I love to do. Pure Genius and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was fun.We traveled to Philly for 6 days to shoot the 2nd part of scene. Look for that to come out around Jan 4th on FXX where I play Black Charlie.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

To anyone thinking about getting into the business know that it is a business. Don’t take things too personally. Have fun, enjoy and embrace the experience. Know that you will have to make some sacrifices. I am the started point guard and quarterback on my teams and I have to miss games and practices some times. But I understand I’m doing something that will put me in position to live a really good life. We are humbled and thankful by each job that God brings our way! Stay prayed up because in this business you will need something to keep you level headed!
