2015 – Steven Thomas Capp

1. How did you get started in the industry?

Well, I’ve been in the industry for as long as I can remember. When I was little and living on Long Island, I always used to do local commercials, and short films. My two sisters did a lot of plays and my mom had an acting studio. I liked to play the theatre games. After a while, I started to grow a passion for acting. From there, we moved out to California to pursue the industry.

2. What was the experience like working on How I Met Your Mother?

Working on How I Met Your Mother was incredible. Being a part of such a legendary show was amazing. When I was on set, I just always had this constant thought of ‘All of that hard work finally paid off’! Seeing how the set was built, and the camera rolling was just a constant rush of energy. The best experience of HIMYM was meeting the cast. They’re all wonderful, genuine people!

3. How did you enjoy filming your episode of The Neighbors?

Filming The Neighbors was really fun because it was one of my first jobs out here in LA. I enjoyed it mostly because of the cast/crew, the learning experience, craft service, and being a part of such a funny show!

4. What was your time on set like filming your NBA Store commercial?

Filming the NBA Spot was like no other experience. Being on set of the commercial was awesome because I got to see all the NBA players. I was especially excited because I’m a huge NBA fan and met Daiman Lillard, Andrew Wiggins, Dwight Howard, Mike Conley, and Jeremy Lin. But the thing that was special about this job was that I got a chance to meet with the director of the spot and the producer. When I met them we had this amazing conversation about weird topics, and within those weird topics I always found a way to make the director and producer laugh. The director really enjoyed my humor, so after I shot the commercial, he gave me the chance to meet/prank all the NBA stars that were in the commercial! And I made a second side spot called the NBA Prankster.

5. What was the coolest part of working on the Captain America: The Winter Soldier promo?

The coolest part about working on Captain America: The Winter Soldier is that when I was on set, none of the cast knew that we were shooting for a huge Marvel film! I did not find out that I was in the movie until about a month after the movie came out. And the thing that is really cool, is that I’m officially in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! (Even though it’s a small part)

6. Do you get nervous at all before going on stage to do a comedy act?

I always get nervous before a comedy show, no matter what! The thing that’s crazy, is that I’ve done 16 shows! I think I only get nervous because I’m afraid that my new material won’t get as much laughs as my old jokes. I also get nervous because I always think I’m going to forget a line.

7. What is the most challenging part of doing improv?

The most challenging part of improv would be getting up there in front of all those people. I say this is the most challenging because mostly everyone gets a little scared when they’re about to perform live in front of people and talk about yourself.

8. What inspires you to come up with your material?

I’d say my stereotypical Italian New York family. This inspires me because it’s just too easy to make fun of! The accents, the hand gestures, the food! Forget about it!

9. Do you have anyone you look up to when it comes to stand up comedy or acting?

I love Kevin Hart and enjoy all the cast members from Saturday Night Live. I think Jimmy Fallon is awesome too.

10. Is there anything you can tell us about your role in The Bandit Hound?

I worked with two other actors from the Standing Tall Comedy Troupe. We play the tough kids – or bullies who pick on the new kid in town. It is a pretty decent part. I’m in a few solid scenes and it was fun because I was on set with kids I know.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

It’s a lot of hard work. And more times you don’t book the job, but when you do get to perform and work, it’s really a lot of FUN!
