2015 – Natasha and Raffaela Capp

1. Natasha, do you remember anything performing in your first local theatre production? What was the experience like?

I always loved performing in the theater. Each experience was magical. All I remember from my first performance is that I was 6 years old and it was Annie. I was upset that I didn’t get to play the character Molly, but it turned out okay because I had the amazing opportunity to perform with my grandma, mom, sister, and two cousins.

2. How do you work on learning your lines for various acting projects?

I go over the lines again and again. And then write them out on paper until I can write them word for word without looking back over at the script. I also will say each line in a different character voice. I like to “play” with the words using different voices. Of course I ask a lot of questions like, what is the scene about? Who I am talking to? What do I want? Why do I want it know and then I think about what if I was this person in this circumstance? How would I respond? React? Feel?

3. What is the experience like performing with Standing Tall Comedy?

I love performing with Standing Tall Comedy. It honestly has been an amazing experience and have met really fun people. Doing Standing Tall made me realize my love for comedy. Going up on stage and performing, hearing the audience laugh at me, with me while making fun of myself is…just thrilling.

4. Do you have any advice you can give to aspiring young comedians?

It is not easy and a lot of hard work. But if you truly love your craft and enjoy making others laugh then keep on doing you. It’s easy to laugh at yourself and then give permission for others to laugh with you!

5. What inspired you to write and produce your own Anti Bullying Campaign video?

Growing up I was bullied and an outsider. Constantly going to different schools, struggling to fit in, and being criticized by others wasn’t fun. It hurt. I did this video because so many others are struggling with being bullied and picked on for simply being different or just being themselves. I wanted to spread a message saying that be you and don’t let others take your power away!

6. Raffaela, what did it feel like when you found out that your music video “So What” was a selection at the Rahway International Film Festival?

Excited that it reached the East Coast after premiering over here on the West Coast!

7. What was the process like working on your first EP?

Nerve racking, exciting, and a form of self discovery.

8. Do you have a favorite theatre production that you have been involved in and why is it your favorite?

My favorite production that I was involved in is RENT. I played the role of Mimi at CM Performing Arts Center. I connected to her soul, her spirit, and felt like I could just be. Plus it really forced me to come out of my comfort zone. Our director/choreographer Patrick Grossman had a ball choreographing “Out Tonight.” And for the first time ever I did some scandalous dance moves.

9. Where do you get your inspiration from when writing short films?

Mindy Kaling, Tina Fey, Whitney Cummings, and Lena Dunham are all women in the industry whose work inspires mine. They are all female writers who use there shows as performance vehicles, and so do I. The Television shows Awkward, Friends, and What I Like About You inspire my work and so does anything Sandra Bullock related.

10. What advice would you give to other actors and singers looking to get started in the business?

Work work work. Don’t listen to the doubters, listen to your heart. And create your own path, your own work. Build the career you want to have. Never rely on or blame anyone but yourself. You’re in charge. Be the boss.
