Star-Kidz

Ryan and Holden Hare play the role of Johnny Abbott on The Young and the Restless. This year they have been seen in a Basic Talk commercial, and to keep up to date make sure to keep checking back here at the site.

1. What was Ryan and Holden’s first audition and what was the process like?

The boys’ first audition was with CBS for Young and the Restless! The boys were 6 weeks old and we got a call from their manager telling us to dress them alike and head down to meet the Casting Directors! We got called later that day telling us they booked the role of Baby Johnny!

2. What was their time on set like filming their Kohl’s commercial?

The boys had a blast filming the Kohl’s commercial! Ryan is the one you see in the high chair getting to make a mess, eat snacks and looking down at the dog and back at his actor mom and at the end of the commercial we had switched in Holden so it’s him the last few seconds!

3. Is there a way to tell the boys apart in their scenes? Can the cast tell them apart?

Their really isn’t a way to tell them apart visually they still weigh the exact same and are the same height but Holden is more of the talker so if you hear him talking in the scene it’s probably Holden! Amelia Heinle, their TV mama is the only one who can most of the time tell them apart!

4. How did they like working with Burgess Jenkins?

The story line didn’t have the boys with Burgess as much as we would have liked but they always had a blast filming the scenes they had with him…it usually included building blocks or something else fun!

5. What is it like working with Amelia Heinle?

Amazing!! The boys have always absolutely adored their TV mommy!! From day one she has always been so wonderful to both of them! They actually don’t understand that we are filming at CBS Studios, they think it’s Amelia’s house so they always ask for me to take them to “Melia’s house to play”.

6. How do the boys like working with Reese and Kennedy?

The boys both love the girls but Holden especially adores his TV sissy! When we have spare time between scenes we like to walk over to the Grove LA with Reese and Kennedy and check out all the fun stuff to do!!

7. What has the bond with the cast and crew been like for Ryan and Holden growing up on the show?

Being with Young and the Restless since the boys were 6 weeks old has truly been a wonderful experience!! They treat us like family and are always so kind when we are filming! They call the boys their shows little Mascot and actually have video reels of the boys scenes that they told me they run on set when we aren’t there! The boys not only love their TV actor family but also adore all the hair and makeup team and stage managers who spoil the boys with sour gummy worms and Magic tricks in between scenes!

8. Is there anyone you hope they get to work with on the show?

I think the boys have been lucky enough to have scenes with everyone the last few years!

9. Do you have any funny stories from set that you can share?

When the boys filmed their second birthday scenes the director gave them their cupcake during rehearsal and if Ryan had eaten too much they would replace it with a new cupcake for the actual scene…it took Ryan no time at all to realize every time he took a bite of the cupcake he would get a new one so before the props guy would even pull his hand away from the cupcake plate Ryan would be shoving the entire thing in his mouth and then ask for more! We quickly decided to use a fake cupcake during rehearsals and only give him the real one for the taping of the scenes!

10. What has been your favorite scene the boys have filmed?

We LOVE the scene where Ryan is blowing out his 2nd birthday candles and is smiling from ear to ear. Another favorite is the “going to see Santa” Christmas scene from a couple years ago that they did with their original TV daddy (who they absolutely adored) and they kept giving him impromptu high fives.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Holden and Ryan just want to wish everyone a very happy and healthy Holiday season and thank you for being such awesome fans!!

We’d like to thank Ryan, Holden, and their family for participating in this year’s Holiday Q&A Event!
