2015 – Elijah Nelson

1. What was your time on set like working on Touch?

It was amazing!!! Keifer Sutherland was so helpful and so interesting to watch! He would have somebody bring a portable table, two chairs, and a chess-set so that in between set-ups he could play chess with people.

2. What was filming Raising Hope like?

So awesome and a great learning experience! It was one of my first roles after moving to L.A. Also, Greyson Chance is a really cool guy!

3. How did you enjoy working on your Iams commercial/print ad?

Oh my goodness, so much fun!! I love working with dogs!! I especially loved working with Chewie, named after Chewbacca. He was the grey haired dog at the end, and he was eleven years old! And, I really enjoyed working with the other child actors in the spot, Gabriel Bateman and Cooper Friedmen. I was already friends with Gabriel before we worked it, so it was cool just to hang out with him and joke around. And Cooper is the coolest little guy you will ever meet!

4. What was the process of filming your Buick commercial?

So the process was pretty standard. When you arrive you sign in, check in, and find out where you’re supposed to be. We waited a little bit, which gave us the chance to talk to Cozy Zuehlsdorff, and her mom. They are such nice people, and Cozy is one of the nicest people I’ve met! After that, we went to wardrobe where we put on the outfits and they had to make sure the clients at Buick liked them. Then, we went to make-up and hair. And then, off to set. It filmed on the USC campus, which is where my dad went, so that was pretty cool! They had about 15 Buick cars, with drivers in them, lined up behind our car to make it look like a real prom. And then, they had the star car which they were polishing every couple of minutes. The whole thing was very professional and well done. And I got to work with the Director of Photography that worked on Django Unchained!

5. What was the best part of working on Mad Men?

Definitely working with Matt Weiner as a director!! Normally he show-runs and writes the episodes and let’s someone else direct the episodes, but he directed that episode! He was so hands on and brilliant on every choice he made. My second favorite part was probably the table read. There I was sitting among a whole room of insanely talented actors, including Jon Hamm, January Jones, Christena Hendricks, and Kiernen Shipka! The whole room went silent when Robert Morse started to sing his farewell song at the end of the read. Afterwards, everybody gave standing ovations, and many people cried.

6. What was your time on set like filming Switchmas?

My experiences on Switchmas are some of my fondest memories. It was right after I came to L.A. Then we got the call to audition in Seattle! We filmed most of the movie in an adorable Bavarian-styled town called Leavensworth. We were a little worried when we first got there, because there was no snow. They thought they were going to have to use a snow-machine, but just a few of days before we started, the snow came in bucket-loads overnight! The entire project from start to finish was nothing but a joy, and I became friends with each and every person on that set. Elliot Gould was especially kind! He would take time out of his very busy life, just to talk to me about life and get to know me better.

7. Do you have a favorite scene you did for the film?

My favorite scene was probably the theater finale. It was so cool to have every one there at the same time, and it was hilarious to watch David and Elliot improv off of each other.

8. Is there anything you can tell us about your upcoming role on Colony?

Well, I can tell you it’s going to be amazing! It has so much production value, and an amazing story! I can’t tell you much about my character, but I can tell you he’s part of the rebellion.
