Star-Kidz

Dylan Fong worked on an episode of Parenthood, and this year has worked for Nike and on the series Shameless! To keep up to date make sure to like his page on Facebook!

1. How did you get started in the industry?

I first got into acting because it seemed like a lot of fun and I had a friend that did some acting at the time. I started with background work then got an agent and was sent out on auditions.

2. What was the experience like filming for Parenthood?

Being on set for Parenthood was exciting because I got to see behind the scenes, hang out with a bunch of kids, and between takes I got to talk with Dax Shepard. He was a cool guy.

3. What was your time on set like working on your AT&T commercial?

When I filmed the AT&T “We Want More” commercial it was tons of fun because all I had to do was sit in a circle with three other kids and Beck Bennett and we just talked and goofed around.

4. How did you enjoy shooting for Nike?

Shooting for Nike wasn’t even work because I got to play at the park and ride my bike, scooter, play basketball, and play on the playground. That’s the best type of job when it doesn’t even feel like work.

5. What was filming a holiday episode of Mike & Molly like?

Filming on the set of Mike and Molly was organized and interesting to see behind the scenes. I got to wait in line to sit on Santa’s lap and even ate cookies at the end.

6. What was it like working with Billy Gardell?

Billy Gardell was super nice. There was a lot of other kids on set that day and he took his time to talk and say “hi” to every kid.

7. How did you feel while filming a PSA for the Boys and Girls Club?

Working on the PSA Boys and Girls Club made me feel good because I was helping other kids find a safe after school program.

8. What is a typical shoot day like for you?

A typical shoot day is waking up super early, driving far in the car (but i do get to sleep in the car), set school is done first, I’m excited when I’m done with set school because that means I get to work! Working rarely feels like working because it’s fun and I’m always making friends and learning new things. The cast and crew are nice to me and treat me like I’m their first priority, that feels good. When it’s time to wrap I thank the director and cast and crew. I am exhausted from the fun long day. I always bring home lots of snacks from craft services.

9. What was the coolest part about filming a Pharell Williams music video?

The coolest part about filming a Pharell Williams music video was meeting Pharell, hearing him sing, and getting to take a picture with him.

10. Do you have a favorite project that you’ve done?

I recently worked three days on the Showtime series Shameless. I learned how to use a prop, got to hang out with a bunch of my friends, and film several scenes. It never seems likes working when I have friends by my side, if the cast treats me nicely, and if I am doing fun things on set.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Sometimes I work a job and film all day, then the project never ends up airing on TV, that’s a little disappointing but I try and remember that I learned a lot and got a lot of experience, and earning money helps too. I am most excited when I get to see the finished project and myself on TV.

We’d like to thank Dylan for participating in this year’s Holiday Q&A Event!
