2015 – Caitlin Carmichael

1. What was your time on set like filming Portrait of Love?

Portrait of Love is one of my favorite movies I have worked on because playing Jess came so natural to me. I just got to be a real kid. Bringing Jess to life helped me embrace my inner artist and photographer. I made so many fantastic memories filming that movie. The entire cast and crew were a big family. I really hope I get to do another Hallmark movie again one day.

2. What was it like working with Bree Williamson?

Working with Bree was always fun. She is a mom, so it was really easy for her and I to bond on set. Bree actually started my love of The Hunger Games series. She introduced me to the books, and I read the first two on set for the first two weeks. Then, we were able to watch the movies at home and talk about them on set. She was always so nice to me, and I don’t think Hallmark could have found a better April.

3. How do you enjoy doing voice over work for Doc McStuffins?

I absolutely LOVE playing Alma on Doc McStuffins! I have been the voice of Alma for 4 years now. I have 2 favorite things about playing Alma: 1. I love seeing how much little kids enjoy watching the show and hearing my voice on their TV. 2. It’s so cool that when I go to the studio, they aren’t recording my face, and I can go to work in my PJ’s!

4. What was the experience like working on Agent Carter?

Working on the set of Agent Carter was so amazing! For the fight scene I did, I got to spend 5 hours in a dojo choreographing the sequence. When we filmed the big fight scene, we battled in slow-motion. Then when the editors of the show pieced together the clips of the fight, they sped it up to make our punches and kicks super fast! I really loved the vintage wardrobe I got to wear. My scenes were set in 1937 Germany, so I got to wear custom outfits made by the incredible wardrobe team of the show. Since it was supposed to be winter, there was a fake snow machine that was used to make the set look like a German winter.

5. How was your time on set different filming your two Criminal Minds episodes?

Both Criminal Minds episodes were so fun to film. In the first episode, I was four; in the second episode, I was nine. It was really cool to take before and after pictures with the cast. In each episode, I was playing two different characters. I had grown a lot between ages four and nine, so I looked different and could play different girls. I love watching the Criminal Minds special effects makeup artists work. It’s so fascinating to me. They are so crazy talented!

6. What was your most challenging part of working on Chosen?

The first day of filming Chosen Season 2, we filmed the ending fight sequence where I hid in the closet. After Milo Ventimiglia, the actor who played my dad, picked me up, I leaned my head on his shoulder. Milo had just been fighting in the woods and was covered in leaves. Unfortunately for me, a lot of those were leaves of three. I woke up the next morning with poison ivy covering my eyes! My eyes were so swollen that I could barely even see! Thankfully, with the help of my Dr., I was better before I had to go back to set, and the Chosen makeup team did a fantastic job on making me look normal again!

7. What was it like working with Chad Michael Murray?

I loved working with Chad. Since it was such a scary show, he always kept things happy on-set in between takes. Some days, he would bring his wolf to set. I loved those days! He was so fun to be around and made everyone smile. On the last night of filming, he gave me my first rose!

8. Do you have a favorite scene you got to film?

My favorite scene that I filmed in Chosen was my first scene in the show. I started Chosen when I was 8-years-old. I got to eat birthday cake for breakfast! And got to eat it over and over, take after take! That scene wasn’t hard to film at all… 🙂

9. Which character that you’ve played so far has been the most like you? The least like you?

That is a hard question to answer because, as an actress, I try to make each character personal so it doesn’t feel like acting. For example, when I played Maddy, I embraced my inner fashionista/artist. I love adding my own touches to each character. Then I just get to be me.

10. Do you have any upcoming projects you’re excited for fans to see?

My movie Martyrs comes out in theaters in February! Martyrs is a scary movie, but it focuses on the special bond between two best friends rather than gore. It has a lot of girl power in it! My film Po will be in theaters in April. Po is about an autistic little boy and his beautiful story. I play his best friend. I can’t wait for you to see both of them! xx
