Star-Kidz

Zachary Alexander Rice appeared on Parenthood during the second season. This year he appeared on You’re the Worst, and has been busy working on a new show! To keep up to date make sure to vist his official website, like his page on Facebook, and follow him on Twitter.

1. What was your time on set like working on You’re the Worst?

Working on the set of You’re the Worst was tons of fun! Everyone was super laid-back and I couldn’t tell who were the actors and who were the crew! It was like one big family.

2. What was your experience like filming Big Love?

Big Love was so cool. We were filming on a warm California day in Santa Clarita…but in the sound stage..which was a BLOCK long…they had and entire fake city block built..with houses and trees and fences!! It was covered with fake snow on the ground and it was supposed to be night time…with stars painted on the ceiling!! It felt like I was in a dream! Really mind-bending to be there. I loved it…and Bill Paxton was the best story-teller EVER!

3. Do you have a favorite event you’ve attended this year?

Yes! Although I love doing the charity events the best overall…this past year had an event stand-out for me. It was Day of the Dead event. I was there signing autographs and I got to see my friend, Rowdy Roddy Piper! He and I did a Funny or Die comedy short a few years earlier. I was so happy to see him. He is one of the coolest guys that I’ve ever met..He just is amazing.

4. What is the best part of doing improv?

Actually, doing improv is my favorite thing! In my new movie coming out in 2015, “Dependent’s Day” (I play Todd Bridges’ adopted son) and the WHOLE film was improv! The director gave us the “concept” of the scene and we had to interact around that. Improv brings out unexpected funny moments and seems more real. That’s why I love it so much.

5. What was it like to be in a production of The Grinch That Stole Christmas?

The Grinch was the first theatre production that I ever did. It was super hard work! It gave me a whole new appreciation for people what do stage work!

6. How did you enjoy filming your Old Navy commercial?

I enjoyed filming the Old Navy commercial a lot. Amy Poehler was really sweet and friendly…and cracked up everyone. Commercials are great.

7. What is the most challenging part of auditioning?

The hardest part of auditioning is GETTING THERE! lol! In Los Angeles, the traffic is really tough. Sometimes it takes us 2 hours to only go 10 miles across town! Several times my poor Mom has had to drive me around ALL DAY because the auditions were all over the place. It’s a challenge to keep my energy up…but I love what I’m doing so much that it is completely worth it!

8. What was it like working on a skit for Conan?

Conan is soooo cool. He jokes around all the time. The skit was so much fun. I got to yell at my faux Mom and be a really bratty kid…Something I would never do in real life! That’s part of the fun of acting.

9. Who have been some of your favorite people to work with this year?

This year I got to do a pilot for Amazon with Clark Duke as the Director/Writer. (He is a regular on Two and a Half Men) and Steven Weber. I have worked with Clark before and he is really creative and fun. I hope one day we can work together again.

10. What can you tell us about your new show?

My new show has been re-named Filling Your Head with Awesome. It will be on Awesomeness TV! It is a comedy show with a science background. I’ll be the main writer!! This show will teach cool facts while being funny and silly! I really hope everyone likes it!

11. Projects for next year?

I have several projects lined up for 2015. One movie will be filming in Texas in the spring and another comedy television pilot for the network will be filming in January. The other projects are still being finalized.

Thanks so much to everyone for all the love and support! It means the world to me. I LOVE YOU Star-Kidz! –Zachy
