2014 – Niko Baur

 

Niko Baur appeared on Parenthood last season and has also been seen on The Young and the Restless. This year he has been busy working on Rake, filming a commercial for Purina, and more! 1. What was your experience like being an MC at the Santa Clarita Day for Kids Event?

I really enjoyed hosting the Day for Kids event. When I was first asked to do it, I was nervous, since I had never done anything like that before, but once I got there and was up on stage, I really got into it. It was amazing seeing all of the different performers do their thing and seeing all of the things that were donated for the kids. It was a really fun day and I am looking forward to hosting next year.

2. How did you like working with Mackenzie Aladjem on Parenthood?

Mackenzie was really nice. It would be great if we got to work together in the future.

3. What was it like working with Hugh Laurie on House?

Amazing. I was really excited when I found out I had booked the show. My family and I always watched the show. Mr. Laurie was very nice to me and made me feel very comfortable on set. I also realized how tall he was. I did not expect that, but then again I was very short. I also enjoyed the tour I was given of the set. It was really cool.

4. Do you have a favorite part of filming your Purina commercial?

My favorite part was getting to pet and hold the kittens. The director was Eriq La Salle, it was very cool meeting an entertainer of his caliber.

5. What was the experience like filming Rake?

It was really great. It was filmed on the Sony picture lot, which is a really cool place. There was one scene that we had to keep re-shooting for some reason and I had to tie my brothers shoes in it over and over again…it became a joke and everybody was cracking up. I got to meet Ian Colletti, he was really nice.

6. How did you enjoy working with Greg Kinnear?

I did not know what to expect. He was very, very professional and very nice. He would be really into a scene and then the next minute he was joking around. I was very glad I was able to work with him.

7. What was your time on set like filming your Hillshire Farm commercial?

That was one of the most fun shoots I have had. We were at an elementary school in their cafeteria. They had a bunch of kids on set and all they were told to do was have a food fight! They placed food in front of them and just told them to throw it at each other! It went on all day and it was a mess. The only bad part was that I wasn’t able to be part of the food fight…I had to crawl on the ground trying to SAVE my sandwich.

8. What was your favorite part of playing Ryder in The Curse of the Sunset Starlet?

My favorite part was meeting Sally Kirkland and Kathleen Wilhoite. Oh and of course, the gory fake death scene, where my grandmother pretended to slit my throat…blood was everywhere. Lori Precious, the director, was great; she always had something to say and was very humorous.

9. Who have been your biggest influences/inspirations within the industry?

Most likely comedians like Robin Williams. I have always had a joking personality and I saw acting as an outlet for that, even though the roles that I usually like are serious which a contrast to my personality.

10. What have you been up to this year?

I started my Sophomore year in high school. I take my education very seriously, so I have dedicated almost all my time to achieving straight A’s in all my classes. One of my classes is Film, which I really enjoy because I get to write, direct and film different kinds of projects. Besides school, I continue to be active in professional acting, taking classes, going out on auditions and when I am lucky enough, get to work on set with some awesome performers.

11. Are you involved with any specific charities?

There is a non-profit that I would like to tell you about. It is called The Artistic Dreams foundation. It was formed to help young talented performers who are in need. It is a great foundation. I would love to have the word spread about this. Most of the help they provide is non-monetary such as full scholarships to acting, singing or dance lessons, free headshots, assistance with dance or acting outfits, meeting agents, managers and casting directors. Is there anything else you would like to add?

I have been honored to work with some very talented people. Actors, Coaches, directors , crew, my agents at Coast to Coast and my awesome manager, Annet McCroskey of Artistic Endeavors who has been with me from the start. Everyone I have met along this journey has taught me so much. Thanks goes out to all of them. Thank you to those who have been part of my journey.
