2018 – Ruby Matenko

Ruby Matenko is the older sister of Max Matenko who played Leo on General Hospital. Ruby has worked on Life in Pieces, Transparent, and more!

1. How did you get started in the industry?
When I was 5, I always wanted to act out every story my mom read to me, so, she signed me up for acting classes at a place called, “The Playground”. My agent saw me do a performance there, and, after I signed on with her, I started getting auditions. After a short while, I started booking commercials, TV shows, and film.

2. Do you remember your first audition?
My first audition was for the movie “Daddy’s Home”. I was excited and nervous, and then I found out I got a callback. I didn’t get the role, but, it was a fun experience.

3. What was your favorite part about working on your episode of Transparent?
My favorite part of working on “Transparent” was watching the older actors up close, and seeing how in touch they were with their emotions.

4. How do you enjoy getting to work with other kids?
I love working with other kids. We spend a lot of time together and usually we become friends. It’s nice to be friends with other kids who do acting, because they understand what it’s like.

5. Do you prefer working on television or film projects? Why?
I prefer to work on film projects. They are very exciting, and I love being able to play one character for a long time. It is also fun because you really get to know the cast and crew.

6. What was your time on set like working on Life in Pieces?
My time on set working on “Life In Pieces” was so much fun, mainly because I loved my funny lines that I got to say. It was great to work with the other kids, we all got along really well.

7. How did you like working with Dan Bakkedahl and Giselle Eisenberg?
I loved working with them. Dan Bakkedahl was so funny, and Giselle Eisenberg was really sweet and friendly. It was so much fun.

8. What is the hardest part of going to set for the first day on a new project? Best part?
The hardest part of going to set for the first day on a new project is not knowing what to expect, and meeting so many new people and hoping I can remember their names. The best part is knowing I get to be a new character, and, that’s always very exciting.

9. Who have been some of your favorite people to work with?
I loved working with pretty much everyone I have worked with, but some of my favorites are Gaby Hoffman on Transparent, Wallace Shawn on the Disney movie we filmed this past summer, and, all the actors I worked with on “My Little One”.

10. What has been your favorite project to work on so far?
My favorite project I have worked on so far is “My Little One”, the feature film I worked on in Arizona for six weeks last year. I was the lead child actor, and I had some very emotional scenes. I learned so much, including how to speak some French, and, it was beautiful where we were filming.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
It’s always been my dream to act things out, and, getting to do it professionally is a dream come true. I never know when I am going to get a role, but, I always give it my all for every audition. Sometimes, the roles I think I will get, I don’t, and, then the ones I think I won’t get, I do. It’s always surprising, and, so much fun.
