2018 – Lucas Armendariz

Lucas Armendariz is the younger brother of Laura Krystine (The Neighbors). This year he has been busy with episodes of Fresh Off the Boat, 9-1-1 and more!

1. Do you have a favorite studio to film/audition at?
I love them ALL! The Disney animation studios is super cool because there is a free full arcade there and tons of cool Disney memorabilia everywhere! Fox Lot is also amazing because everywhere you look there are huge murals of iconic movies up like Star Wars! BUT, the universal studio back lot is literally an amusement park, so who wouldn’t want to film there, I got to film in the same lake Jaws and Jurassic Park filmed in! I mean I was in the same lake shooting 9-1-1 that was used for major studio films. So let’s say 3 way tie, I just can’t make up my mind.

2. How did you enjoy attending the Netflix premiere party for To the Beat?
Attending was cool. I love supporting my big sister and hanging out at her important events/parties. I feel like most of her friends are my friends too 😂😎

3. What is your favorite part about acting?
Being able to pretend I’m a completely different person and doing fun cool or even scary things, but it’s not really scary cause it’s acting. I also like meeting the adult actors and directors because they always tell me cool stories or give me cool advice.

4. What was your time on set like filming Fresh Off the Boat?
SO COOL! My sister worked on Fresh Off The Boat a couple years ago and so I met Forrest at her birthday party. I told my mom I was going to work on Fresh Off The Boat too! So when I got the audition I knew it was my chance to grab it. Being there and working directly with Forrest and Ian was so much fun! Trevor was also on set that day who is a good friend of my sisters, so I got to talk to him too. The whole thing was one of my favorite jobs ever!

5. How much fun was it dressing up in a Harry Potter costume for the shoot?
Unreal! I mean Harry Potter??!! At my fitting I was so excited and couldn’t wait to see which costume production was going to pick! I had soooo much fun wearing it. It was a little bit at times so Wardrobe gave me this little personal fan I got to use through out the shoot.

6. What was it like working with Forrest Wheeler and Ian Chen?
I’ve been looking up to Forrest since I met him at my sister birthday. I hope to have my own show just like him. It’s so cool to me that I get to work with these cool actors. They both made the set so fun and seeing them in their costumes was so funny.

7. What was the experience like filming for 9-1-1?
OHHH!! 9-1-1 was amazing!!!!! Not only was it shot at universal studios but it was shot in the iconic lake! They had a huge rainmaker machine and scuba divers in the water making sure I was safe! I had my own personal EMT firefighter that was with me the entire night to ensure safety. Getting in the lake was really cold, BUT they made me a custom scuba diving suit to go under my clothes. The Director Jen Lynch was amazing! She made sure I had a fun and safe professional set. I talked a lot with Kenneth Choi who plays, “Chimney”. He’s super cool!

8. How did you enjoy working with Aisha Hinds?
I loved working with Aisha Hinds. The episode I did was completely about her and it was a powerful message to all! Aisha is someone I will never forget! And she saved my life so…. Of course that makes her more amazing! Haha

9. Which do you enjoy more, acting in a drama or a comedy?
Definitely DRAMA!! No questions asked!!!! I love drama! It’s intense and real and something I truly enjoy!!

10. What has been your favorite project to work on this year?
To be honest, I really don’t have a favorite. Everyone was so unique and amazing in their own way! I appreciate every opportunity and I am very grateful for all the jobs I have been given.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I was actually unaware that my episode of the Rookie was going to air the very next day after 9-1-1 😂 a family member who lives in a different time zone told my mom she saw me on, “The Rookie”. It was kinda crazy because I did a drowning scene in 9-1-1 and then the very next day I was on, “The Rookie” doing another drowning scene!! I was rescued by Nathan Fillion another amazing and powerful actor! The fact that I did 2 big shows back to back on 2 different episodes is an experience of a lifetime! I will never forget it!
