Skylar Dunn is a young actress based out of New York City. This has been quite the exciting year for her with episodes of Orange is the New Black, Sesame Street, and a feature film! Her movie The Greatest Showman released on Christmas Day so make sure to head out and see it!

1.How did you enjoy working on your film Altered Hours?

It was super fun!! My dad brought me to the set and we stayed in a guest house and we stayed in upstate New York , I played games with the cast a lot, and the set was super cool there was a cabin with a beach behind it and a hammock. a few days later I went home and then came back with my mom and we started filming that day super early in the morning. I shot a couple different times one time the set was on the sidewalk and I got to draw in the street which was fun the second time we shot it was in a cabin and the third time we shot it was at a hospital. Everyone was super nice!! I really enjoyed working on that project!

2. What was your time on set like filming Orange Is The New Black?

I really enjoyed filming OITNB. I got a trailer for the day, and I got to work with super nice people. We filmed in a big house I remember they had set up a big dessert and sandwich and drink table as part of the scene we filmed. I really loved working on OITNB it was super fun!!

3. What was the best part of filming your episode of Sesame Street?

Working on Sesame Street was a great experience! My favorite part was that I got to meet Elmo and Big Bird in person and lots of other characters in that show I also loved that I got to tap dance which was awesome!

4. How do you prepare for live theatre roles?

I have rehearsals. So in advance we practice singing and dancing on the stage so we know what it’s going to feel like when we actually perform.

5. What was opening night for Madeline’s Christmas like?

It was super exciting because lots of people came to watch me, and it was really exciting to perform it on stage for the first time and on 42nd St.

6. How did you react when you found out you booked the Greatest Showman?

I was in the car with my friend on my way to dance after school so I didn’t expect at all so when my agent called me she said something like we have new information on the greatest showman and then she told me I booked it and I started bawling my eyes out I was SSOOOO happy and then my friend started screaming and everyone was just so happy. My agent actually recorded my reaction and it is on my agents Instagram and my Instagram.

7. What was your first day on set like?

We shot on the beach for our first day shooting it was December and it was freezing! I had to put hand, foot, and back warmers on bc my dress was short sleeves, so after every take they would put my jacket on me. Every so often Ellis “young Barnum” and I would go in a heated room they set up. The view that day was beautiful though. It was super fun that day.

8. What was the experience like playing the younger version of Michelle Williams’ character Charity?

I really loved playing that role. I played a funny sweet wealthy young girl who could get into trouble sometimes. It was definitely a fun role to play. I got to film in mansions which was super cool, the house that was the set of my house was HUGE!! The director would give me corrections to do things that Michelle would do and I would have to do something the way that Michelle does as her character which was fun to learn how the older version of my character acts.

9. Who was your favorite person in the film to work with?

My favorite person to work with was Hugh Jackman, although we didn’t shoot any scenes together he was probably one of the nicest people I have ever met! He gave everyone lottery tickets like two different times, and one time I won (another ticket) which was cool! Hugh is also an inspiration to me, he is a great person, dancer, singer, and of course actor.

10, Is there anything else you can share about The Greatest Showman?

This is going to be a great movie for any age and the songs are AMAZING (you will be singing them for weeks) and the movie is filled with colors, dancing, and singing. This movie is magical and I think you will love it!!
