2016 – Riley Lio

1. How did you get started in the industry?

I started the industry, when an agent from Brand Model approached my parents when I was 4 years old and said that I had a great look and if my parents would consider me doing some modeling. My Dad wasn’t really sure about how legit it was, but with my Mom’s curiosity, she and I met with them at their office.

2. What was your time on set like working on your Sam & Cat episode?

My time on set was great! I spent a whole week working with the cast. We rehearsed each day, banked in school hours, met with wardrobe so they could decide what my character I was playing needed to wear, and of course, craft services is awesome. On the last day, which was a Friday, we filmed. My dressed room was awesome. They had my character name and real name on the door. Really made me feel special. Enjoyed working with Ariana Grande, Jeanette McCurdy, and Cameron Ocasio.

3. What was the best part of filming Deadtime Stories?

The best part of filming Deadtime Stories was filming in the closet. Although I was cramped sitting inside for multiple hours during the day, it was fun. The house that we film at had this super small closet, just enough for me to hide in and scare Jennifer Stone, who played the babysitter.

4. Do you have a favorite GAP shoot that you have done?

What favorite GAP shoot, have I done. Well, all of my GAP shoots have been wonderful. Each were for a different campaign and the creativity of the crew made each one special. I worked so many campaigns with them, but if I really had to pick, I enjoyed the Winter/Holiday campaign that I did for GAP and for GAP Factory, I enjoyed the last campaign which, which was also a Holiday campaign where I had an opportunity to shoot with two 8 week old white Labradors. That was pretty exciting. The GAP crew are amazing to work with and they were just like family to me.

5. What was your shoot for Jini Magazine like?

The shoot with Jini Magazine was a nice opportunity to work with new talents in the industry on a movie themed “Hunger Games,” editorial. Alex Kruk was the photographer and the images were great.

6. What was was a typical shoot day for Old Navy like?

A typical shoot day for Old Navy, when not shooting in LA, is flying to San Francisco to do a fitting and shoot the next day. Pretty much like all print jobs, you shoot with all the different wardrobes that they have planned for you, get a break for lunch, and in between takes, if they are shooting with other talents, you do your school works when you can. At the end of the day, you fly back home.

7. How did you enjoy shooting for Tillys?

Shooting with Tilly’s was so exciting! It happens to be one of my favorite stores, where I regularly shop at. It doesn’t get any better working for a brand that you love and shop at. Now that I am teen, they have the styles that today’s teen really likes. They have an amazing crew and I really enjoyed working for them.

8. What was the experience like filming your episode of Teachers?

My experience filming the pilot episode for Teachers was so much fun. There were so many kids on this episode since the setting was in a classroom. We got to do a lot of things in class, like throw paper at each other. Being one of the three principals for this episode, we had a whole classroom to share as our dressing room.

9. Who have been some of your favorite people to work with?

Some of my favorite people that I’ve worked with have been Ariana Grande (Sam & Cat), Jeanette McCurdy (Sam & Cat), Key & Peele (Espys), George Lopez (Saint George), Danny Trejos (Saint George), Dylan Snyder (Kickin It), Leo Howard (Kickin It), Mateo Arias (Kickin It), and Shanola Hampton (Shameless), Giada de Laurentiis (Target) and Stephanie Courtney (Progressive Flo).

10. What has been your favorite project to work on so far?

My favorite project to work on so far was for NBC’s Marry Me. I enjoy being on set working on all TV shows, but this one had to be my favorite. There were a couple of scenes which was the laser tag and basketball scene that were just so much fun. No matter how many takes we had to do, it was fun shooting with the laser guns. Basketball is my favorite sports, so playing on that scene was pretty cool.
