2013 – Merit Leighton

 

Merit Leighton is Marlowe’s older sister. This year she has been seen in The New Normal, commcercials for Pop Tarts and Purina and more! 1. How did you like filming Monster Slayer?

Well I LOVED it. The most amazing three days. Acting with Timm Sharp was pretty amazing, he is so talented. Caskey the director and writer wrote a wonderful story with an 8 year old girl who has wings and fighting monsters….how much more awesome does it get than that!

 

2. How did you enjoy working on your Purina commercial?

The cats were so talented!!…watching the trainers work with them was pretty cool. Marci who played my mom was really nice, my dad played by Will Sanford, was super funny and my brother in the commercial, Emjay Anthony was also cast as my sisters brother in the Applebaum pilot two weeks later. We had fake rain too that’s always cool when they make weather!

 

3. Do you have a favorite memory from filming for Pop Tarts?

Yes, when it came time for me to do the shot where I eat the Poptart minis it was cool because they would have to reset each time they did a new take……the balloons and the spinning planets all had to be reset, it was kind of an amazing shot to be in.

 

4. How did you feel learning you booked The New Normal?

That was very exciting. I have been working for five years but had never booked a TV show! I had done films, VO and commercials, but not TV. When I started at 5 that’s what I wanted so at 10 to finally have it come true I was very very happy.

 

5. What was it like filming your episode?

There were a lot of extras plus myself and Bebe. The actual scene only took about 20 minutes to shoot, it was fun.

 

6. How did you enjoy working with Bebe Wood?

She was very nice. I played a bully so I wanted her to know that I’m really nice lol…after all I throw a plate of food on her!

 

7. What kind of advice do you give your sister when she’s heading to an audition?

She actually gives me more advice than I give her…:) She helps me prepare and is super supportive, shes the best!

 

8. What has been your favorite project to work on this year?

Well that’s easy! the SPIKE Video Game Awards. The most amazing experience I have ever had. I had the privilege of singing with a full orchestra conducted by Grammy award winning conductor/compser Lorne Balfe. Mr. Balfe and producer Mark Burnett were incredibly awesome. They treated me like a superstar and got to perform to a huge live audience, there are no words for how amazing it was!

 

One other amazing expreience this year was being the voice of Lucinda the Witch in “Sofia The First” for Disney junior, watch for it in January 2013. So so much fun and I’m the only witch!!
