2015 – Merit Leighton

 

Merit Leighton is Marlowe’s older sister. This year she has been seen in the webseries Natasha, heard on Sofia the First as Lucinda the Witch, and been busy working on 40’s and Failing! 1.What was it like working at Capitol Records?

The experience was incredible. Working with music producer Lido, singing backup for Halsey on her hit single “New Americana” was an honor.

2. How did you feel holding/seeing a Lucinda the Witch toy for the first time?

DREAM COME TRUE! I had known for a while that it was supposed to be made but actually seeing it, and holding it was the most amazing feeling in the world. It’s such an honor to have created an original character for Disney in the first place, but to have her immortalized as a figure, was more than I ever imagined.

3. What was the experience like attending LA Fashion Week?

It’s something I’ve always wanted to be invited to. My mom and I have been watching “Project Runway” since season one, so to attend two shows with her was a really special moment. Getting to experience a runway show in person for the first time, spectacular.

4. How did you enjoy shooting with Natalie Warr?

Natalie is just so great! Super sweet and talented I love her style. Her studio is in Oceanside, so we spent the night with my Aunt Lynda who lives near there. Had a great photo shoot with Natalie and then ate dinner on the beach with my family! Great day!

5. What was your time on set like filming Natasha?

One of my favorite projects ever. Emily Green the actress who created the character Natasha and writer/director Jason Gudasz, are just brilliant people. Lori Alan who I ADORE played my mother, she is really truly hilarious, like all the time! We had a blast.

6. How did you prepare for your role?

Preparing for Natasha was like nothing else I’d ever done, I had to of course not laugh at Lori Alan for starters, and then try not to blink, stay perfectly still and be completely stone faced. On top of that I had to have a lollipop in my mouth the whole time and say my lines. It was awesome!

7. What was the casting process like for 40’s and Failing?

Easiest ever! LOL Marlowe and I auditioned on New Year’s Eve and after we were finished, Rene the director came out and said we had booked it. Best start to the New Year ever. We love you Rene Ashton XOX

8. How did you enjoy working with Marlowe?

Marlowe is an amazing actor, and really funny. We have been waiting 7 years to play sisters, so when we booked it, we were ecstatic. I loved finally getting to work with her…I admire her a lot.

9. What is your favorite thing about your character Ally?

Ally is amazing to play, because she is so NOT me, Goth, angry, resentful. My favorite roles are the mean girl, rebel, angst ridden teen. It’s so much fun to be utterly and completely someone else and say things I would never say in real life. My dream role would be to play a villain like Regina in Once Upon a Time. (FYI my favorite show)

Is there anything else you wish to add?

Random Fact- I’m obsessed with Japan and currently learning Japanese with my sister. I love Hatsune Miku, Anime especially Sailor Moon and Love Live. My favorite voice actors are Tara Strong and Jacob Hopkins.
