2023 – Scarlett Fernandez

Scarlett Fernandez plays the role of Charlotte Cassadine on General Hospital. This year she made her return to the role she originated back in 2016, and with a big storyline to play out!

1. How did your return to General Hospital come about?
I had absolutely no idea I would ever return. I got a surprise call at the end of the last school year from my manager asking if I’d be interested in coming back.

2. What was your first day back on set like? Was it a surprise or did your co-stars know you were returning ahead of time?
My first day back was like coming home. I was so excited to be back and everyone was so welcoming. The actors knew they were working with “Charlotte” but didn’t know it was me.

3. What did you and James Patrick Stuart do to get back in that Papa/Charlotte head space again when working together?
It came naturally. Even though we hadn’t seen each other in a while that father daughter relationship came very naturally. He’s great at running lines with me and giving me advice.

4. How has the experience been like filming with Finola Hughes?
It’s been kind of full circle with Finola. When Charlotte first came to Port Charles and she was with Griffin, she stayed at Anna’s townhouse for a little bit. When I came back Charlotte had the big storyline about burning the townhouse down. She is an amazing actor and really special to work with.

5. What was the process like filming Avatar? How different is it from your routine of filming General Hospital?
I filmed Avatar years ago. Motion capture is really interesting how they put it all together. Obviously General Hospital goes a lot faster. We shoot one episode a day instead of one scene per day and it’s on the air six weeks later, not 3 to 4 years later.

6. What are some of the biggest challenges in balancing school, acting, and your social life/extra curricular activities?
It’s pretty challenging right now because I don’t live in California where GH is filmed. I started high school this year and I play Varsity and club volleyball. I do a lot of homework on the plane and luckily for FaceTime I keep up with the social stuff!

7. How did you prepare for the scenes where Charlotte was shot?
I worked with a coach, but I also got good advice from the other actors and the stunt coordinator. I love those kind of scenes where there is action.

8. How did you enjoy getting to work with Hudson, Asher & Lily for the Halloween episodes? Did you get into any mischief between scenes?
I love working with other kid/teen actors. It’s just feels like a normal day to me with a little work in between. We all helped each other with our lines, ate together and played games in between scenes.

9. What is the biggest difference in your portrayal of Charlotte now as a teenager than when you first started?
When I first started, Charlotte either colored or ate in almost every scene. She only had a few lines and wasn’t a very big part of the storyline. Now Charlotte has a pretty big storyline and people are getting to see the true Cassadine that she is. I love that Frank Valentini and the rest of the producers and writers have trusted me with more.

10. What has been your favorite scene to do this past year?
My favorite scene was the emotional scene when Charlotte was in the hospital and Anna tried to visit her. I loved the range of emotion!
