2023 – Kingston Foster

Kingston Foster played the roles of Ariana and Heather on Days of Our Lives. She has had roles on Just Roll with It, Prom Pact, and Fresh Off the Boat, and best known for playing Zoey in the Disney film franchise Zombies.

1. How has the audition process changed for you since the pandemic/strike?
Before the Pandemic, the majority of my auditions were live and in-person. This allowed casting directors and productions to really see my personality and talents apart from the scene(s) they provide. After the pandemic, auditions were self-tapes filmed from home. This allowed me to have more time to prepare a role and choose the perfect tape to submit. After the strike, most productions offer video call auditions from home. I like video calls best because the casting can still interact with me and see my personality, without taking a great amount of time driving.

2. Did you get nervous acting and singing in front of a live audience for Seussical the Musical?
Exploring the new genre of musical theatre was a little nerve-wracking, as it is not something I had done live before. However, I am used to performing for people, as I have done it most of my life. I used my prior knowledge of performing in a new way: live theatre!

3. What did you like most about doing live theatre? What was the most challenging part compared to doing film/television?
What I like most about live theatre is the exposure to improv and how much I have grown in using improv since doing live theatre. Improv had been something I did not often explore or dive deep into in my films and TV shows. My greatest challenge with live theatre was that there are no resets or retakes. If you make a mistake, you have to figure out a way recover and make it seem like it was meant to be. This was something I had not experienced before, as you can always cut the cameras and restart a scene when shooting movies or TV shows.

4. What was your experience like recording your song for the Zombies movies?
I loved being able to sing in the Zombies movies! When Zombies asked me to sing, they sent a demo of what the songs sounded like, including lyrics. This well prepared me to be confident and prepared the day I recorded. Recording sessions would usually take around an hour, as I can receive feedback and sometimes sing multiple songs. My songs in Zombies 2 and 3 were all recorded inside a sound studio in LA. When I booked Zombies 1 ,however, I was living in Nevada. Disney had set up for me to record my songs in a studio near me, in Las Vegas.

5. How did you react when you got called back for a third movie?
How I found out about Zombies 3 is actually a funny story. About a year after Zombies 2 had finished filming, my friend calls me asking if there was going to be a Zombies 3 because she was reading a scene from it in her acting class. I hadn’t heard anything about a Zombies 3, so I told her I had no idea. I later reached out to my agent, telling her about my conversation with my friend. She ended up confirming with Disney and telling me I would be filming soon. Of course, my family and I were really excited. I loved visiting Canada and could not wait to see the cast and crew again!

6. What was it like to reunite with your Zombies family again after being apart for some time?
It was so nice to finally reunite with the cast after being apart for so long! Everyone had gotten so much older, but kept their kind personalities and amazing talents. I particularly spent a lot of time with the cast during Zombies 3. I was finally able to relate to and share many common interests as many of the cast members, as I was finally old enough.

7. How has Zoey changed from the first film to the third film?
In the first film, Zoey is extremely eager to be involved in anything her brother is a part of. She wants to make friends with everyone and has extremely big dreams! However, she is limited by her young age and understanding of her surroundings. Throughout the next two films, Zoey learns and grows a lot. By the third film, she has set a path for her to accomplish her dreams and fight for what she believes in. She is finally old enough to keep up with her brother. She has prepared herself to defend Seabrook alongside her brother and friends, as she believes she is ready to showcase her fearlessness and skills she has trained for.

8. Can you tell us anything about your character in Rebel Moon?
In Rebel Moon, I play Edda. She is a young villager and farmer living with a small community on a planet called Veldt. She is terrified of the evil forces coming to her village, but has hope and faith in anyone who is willing to defend her planet and fight with her people. She feels things deeply, and only wants the best for her friends, family, and village. You will have to stay tuned for part II to see what Edda is all about!

9. What are your career goals for 2024?
In 2024, I would love to explore more dramatic roles or dive into the drama genre more. I recently wrapped Rebel Moon, which is definitely diving into deep emotions and covering the drama (and action) genre. I absolutely loved using this new and exciting version of acting. I would love to improve and use these skills in 2024!
