Kylie Burkholder appeared in multiple episodes of The Neighbors throughout 2013. This year she has been busy working on TV shows, films, music videos and more! To keep up to date make sure to like her page on Facebook and follow her on Twitter.

1. How did you get started in the industry?

I started singing at a very young age…to “The Little Mermaid.” When I was 5 years old, I got approached by a lady in the mall (I was singing in the middle of Victoria Secret while my Mom shopped). She said that she worked for Disney and would LOVE for me to come in and discuss my future. We went in, and it was John Robert Powers, my Mom said NO.

3 years later, in the mall again, I saw a big stage set up saying “American Mall Model Search.” My Dad said it’s just a scam….my Mom said “I know how to say NO, I just want to see her get up on that stage in front of hundreds of people and watch her strut her stuff and sing her heart out. If she does, we will go find her representation!”

I designed my own shirt, had a photo session, walked the runway, and sang a song. A couple weeks later they sent me a letter in the mail saying that I won! They assigned me an agent, she was bad! I never ever heard from her.

After doing video auditions from that casting site, for months, I booked the role of Lead Vampire in an Indie film. I was so excited, but my Mom turned it down. She said the director was a creep, he kept on hitting on her telling her to leave my Dad so we could be 1 big happy family. He didn’t follow the rules of minors and the thought of taking me to Colorado for a month to film with this guy freaked her out.

She told my acting coach about the whole thing…..I was then referred to a manager. She signed me immediately and after an audition in LA she had me stop by an agency. I did a read for them and was signed a few hours later!!

2. What was your first booking and how did you feel going to set for the first time?

My 1st actual booking was “Not Another Celebrity Movie.” I played a crazy Justin Bieber fan, which is funny because I didn’t really like JB at that time! I remember talking to Dan Schneider about Victoria Justice and Ariana Grande, and Miranda Cosgrove and Jennette McCurdy. It was funny not long after when Sam and Cat came out….was kinda cool that he was talking to me about them to get info and see who was liked more.

I also remember that I was 8 years old. I was mad that I had to leave before they finished filming for the day. So, I stayed in the balcony and watched and learned what set life would be like……

3. What was your experience like working on The Neighbors?

Working on “The Neighbors” was really cool. I filmed 4 episodes with them and everyone on that set was so nice!

Being in a scene with Max and Abby drinking “special punch” with them and actually talking to them was AWESOME! We follow each other on Instagram….they make me laugh!

4. How did you enjoy filming Ghost Goggles?

Ghost Goggles was an incredible experience. I got to play a “Goth Girl” named “Rebecca.” She was mean and talked badly to the main character. I had fun with this role….I got to get into the makeup and colored hair extensions and really just get funky! I had 7 wardrobe changes and felt so alive. I really like getting into character, being mean is opposite of myself normally, so it is fun for me to “Let it go!”

5. What was your time on set like working on When Calls the Heart?

“When Calls the Heart” was fun. It was the 1st time I actually got to meet famous people that I looked up to. When I saw Lori Loughlin in the makeup room in the chair next to me, I about flipped out. The day just kept getting better, I met her and she was soooooo nice. I love watching “Full House” so it was awesome getting to take a picture with her. I also met Maggie Grace and Jean Smart. Two more amazing ladies. But, the best part of that day was dressing in period clothing and making jokes with Michael Landon Jr…….

6. How do you prepare for an audition?

I prepare for an audition differently, depending on what it is for. If it is a commercial I eat right before I go! LOL…there really is no prep for a commercial, unless it has lines specifically. If it is for a theatrical role, I do my research. I watch episodes, if it is on air currently, or do any kind of research I can about the role I am auditioning for. Sometimes, I will go to my acting coach for a session.

I usually get goose bumps after and audition that I did really good on.

7. What was the best part of filming Diabolical?

Being booked as a Principle and having my own wardrobe, hair and makeup stylists was so exciting to me. The story line was interesting because it was based off of a true story. We had suggestions for lines, but really filmed improv style, which was awesome! It was a small set and they took really good care of us, they even brought me ice cream and Starbucks! There were dogs and horses on the property, so when I was not filming I got to hand out with the animals….I LOVE animals!

8. What is one of the coolest things you have ever gotten to do for a project?

I was booked a Principle role in a music video for “Frantic Ginger”, playing 2 roles- Frenemy and Wicked Witch of the West.

It was great filming in the Lead singer’s home…..Nicki Tudesco is so cool! My friend Claire Oldham and I were the 2 “Frenemy Girls” and we got to yell at Nicki and call her names and be “Mean Girls.” I REALLY like playing a different person, being able to get into character, put on an outfit that normally isn’t me.

9. Who have been some of your favorite people to work with?

Antonio Sabato Jr on “Little Women Big Cars” He was so much fun and I got to do two things I love acting and playing soccer for a whole week, with one of the coolest guys I know!

I auditioned for a role in a movie for Maria Olsen. They wanted me to bleach my hair blonde for the part and my Mom said no, I was too young and my hair color was too pretty to already mess with. Maria Olsen sent me a friend request on Facebook and told me that by far I had the best audition and that she would LOVE to work with me in the future! She has recommended me to other directors and I have booked a few jobs with our mutual connections now. She also wrote a role for a short film with me in mind when she wrote it. We film soon!

10. What has been your favorite project to work on so far?

I LOVE to play different characters and I really like horror films. I played a kid zombie in “Call of the Dead 2” and I got my head blown off with a shotgun in that movie. The director liked me so much that he wrote me into “Call of the Dead 3” and let me get my revenge by being the Lead Zombie and kill “Jarrod” the guy that shot me in part 2. Being in FX makeup is fun it really helps me get into character! I love the blood too, it’s chocolate!!! Yummmmm…..
