2014 – Austin Oesterling

 

Austin Oesterling has appeared in episodes of both Parenthood and Touch. This year he’s been seen in SuperKids, did commercial and packaging work for the new Rabbid Ivasion video game, and more! To keep up to date make sure to visit his official website and like his page on Facebook.

1. How did you get started in the industry?

Well it all started when I was with my mom at the mall and I saw a sign-up sheet for a Cat Walk and Talent show. So I signed up. I ended up winning the whole thing. My first place prize was a year free on a casting website where I did a few small jobs. After that I realized I had a natural talent for acting so my parents obtained a manager who laid out a path for me and well…lead me to where I am today.

2. How was the experience different filming Parenthood vs Touch?

Well on Touch there was myself and a few other kids so there was more personal attention. On Parenthood there were a ton of kids so it was pretty much you shoot and go. But I had a blast on both and can’t wait to do it again.

3. What was the process like working on SuperKids?

The process of filming SuperKids was fun and a great experience. It was filmed all on a green screen. It was my first time working with a green screen so it took some getting used to. If you have never worked with a green screen I definitely recommend it. Being that everything in the film was VGI, we pretty much had to use pure imagination while acting the whole time.

4. How did you feel seeing the final version of the film with the special effects?

Seeing SuperKids for the first time when it was finished was awesome. I am really into super heroes and comics. So to be able to play one myself was great. It was crazy to see it go from green screen to full CGI.

5. How did you enjoy working on Parks and Recreation?

It was cool working on Parks and Rec because even though it was summer we were filming a Halloween scene. So I got to dress up and at the end of the day I got a ton of candy.

6. What was your time on set like filming Let Me Help You?

My time on set filming LMHY was awesome. We all got along real well and we all joked and played around a lot. I got to work with some great people who now I call my friends. It was also very informative as I got to see how everything was filmed and how it was made.

7. What was the best part of working on your Pictionary commercial?

The best part of working on the Mattel Pictionary commercial was well…to be honest everything about it was my favorite…haha. But if I had to pick just one thing it was when it was my turn to get up and draw.

8. How cool is it to be on the cover of the new Rabbid Invasion video game?

It’s very cool to be on the cover of the Rabbids Invasion video game. I’m a big gamer so it’s cool to go into Gamestop and other stores and see myself on all the covers. Originally I was just filming the commercial but after we were done the director came up and said he wanted me on the cover along with the two other kids that are on there as well. It was definitely a blessing.

9. Who have been some of your favorite people to work with?

To be quite honest it’s been a blessing being able to work with everyone I have worked with thus far. But one of my very favorites is Kyle Wright better known as Damian in LMHY. We had a blast. It was like working with an older brother. Mr. Walberg who was the director of both the Pictionary commercial and Dragons commercial was also very fun to work with. He was very nice and informative. I hope to get to work with him again.

10. What has been your favorite project to work on so far?

Nickelodeon’s Rabbid Invasion was pretty cool but so far the best was LMHY. It was the first time I was able to be my own character and be able to express and feel as that character. The whole experience was great.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

To all those out there still on the daily grind and those just starting out, remember everyone is different. For some it takes but a small amount of time to land that big project and for others it takes a bit longer. Just remember your time will come. There’s a role out there for everyone. I’ve been at this working hard for three years and my dream is to make this my career. I really love acting and all that I get to do. Someday I hope to grace your TV’s and movie screens.
