2012 – Xolo Mariduena

1. How did you get started in the industry?

I started about 2 years ago when we moved back to Los Angeles from Las Vegas, we found an agent and they sent me on a call the same week.

 

2. What was your first project? Do you remember going to set for the first time?

The first call (audition) I went on was for Sears and I booked that commercial. I didn’t know what to expect but it was fun. They had really good food there. That’s when I realized that working as an actor is awesome, especially when the food on set is good.

 

3. How did you feel when you learned you were cast on Parenthood?

I was super excited! At that time I had only been working 6 months so to be on a show with this many stars who are really accomplished actors, it was incredible.

 

4. How do you like working with Max, Savannah and Tyree?

I don’t get to work with Max much but he is cool. He likes some of the same video games I like. Savannah and Tyree I work with most and we also hang out outside of work. Recently I went bowling with Tyree and his family for his sister Mackenzie’s birthday and we also went to Disneyland with Savannah and her sister Emily. It really feeels like we are cousins.

 

5. What’s it like working with Sam?

When Sam directs an episode, like when Dax directs it, I get lots of feedback and help. Sam is really interesting to work with because he treats me on the same level that he does other actors. We can sit down and have conversations about acting and he is helpful in that way.

 

6. What’s the best part of working with Erika?

She is funny and easy to get along with, and she is also very helpful with any question I may have on a scene or working. Did you know she speaks almost perfect Spanish? Plus she rides her bike to work, how cool is that?

 

7. Is there someone in the cast you hope to get to work with more often?

Ray Romano, but our scenes don’t crossover so that is probably not going to happen. Other than that, Mae Witman is very funny she would be cool to work with. I think we should have a Braverman trip somewhere and mae can lead the way.

 

8. Do you have a favorite commercial that you’ve filmed?

Target’s summer commercial was fun! We were in a huge stage and there was blue screen behind us, but on stage we had a million water sport things, like slip and slides and water guns. It was a 3-day water fight!

 

9. Is there a favorite event that you’ve attended?

The Alma Awards were incredible. To be latino and see actors and people in the business who share many of the same experiences that I do, and to imagine being where they are one day was really cool. The night before the event we got to have dinner at Mayor Villaraigosa’s house. That was equally as cool. He grew up blocks from where I live and he is Mayor now…that tells me I can be anything!

 

10. What has been your favorite scene to film on Parenthood so far?

That’s easy, the baseball scene where my whole family was there cheering me on. It felt so real! Lots of it wasn’t scripted…I mean I forgot to drop the bat, I really hit the ball, it was just so cool. I don’t really play baseball, but I have played a baseball player three times now (Dealin’ with Idiots, Ford commercial and Parenthood), so i can get that winning experience!
