2021 – Jordyn Fung

Jordyn Fung was in a 2019 holiday episode of General Hospital. She has also appeared in numerous shows including Sydney to the Max, Reverie, and The Mandalorian!

1. How did you get started acting?
It was my older sisters who started working first and then my mom decided to sign me up. We all started doing background work and it wasn’t until the last two years that we finally got an agent and/or manager. It’s been quite the experience and I never imagined getting these opportunities whether big or small, and meeting some amazing people along the way.

2. How have auditions changed? Do you enjoy filming them from home?
Thankfully most of my auditions are video tape auditions, then the callbacks have been through zooms. But I have done in person as well. I’m still always very nervous when I do auditions. I still have a little trouble memorizing lines, but I continue working on it. I love filming from home because the commute from where we live into Hollywood can take up to 2-3 hours just to get to an audition or call back if traffic is bad. So we really prefer the video auditions.

3. What was the experience like filming for The Mandalorian?
It was surreal. I was not familiar with the Star Wars serious but when we went to the first fitting, that was when we found out it was for this new show from Jon Favreau. The hardest part was having to keep Baby Yoda a secret, because we signed NDAs so we couldn’t say a word. Then we couldn’t take photos on set or being able to document the times we spent shooting. I know the professional photographers were there and took pictures of all of us kids in the episode that Bryce Dallas Howard directed, but we’re still hoping to get access to those photos someday. My dad is a big Star Wars fan so he would be the one I turned to for answers. Now I’m a huge Mandalorian fan, and I’m so excited to be part of this awesome project.

4. What was the best part of working on Sydney to the Max?
The episode I got to work on included us eating spaghetti with our hands so yeah, that was the best part. I think we had like 4 or 5 takes.

5. How did you enjoy getting to work on two episodes of Killer Siblings?
It was intense when you’re reenacting violent scenes. I had to shoot a scene where my acting dad poured liquid on me that was supposed to be gas and then lighting a match, threatening to burn me. But there were scenes when it was a fun social get together. Yeah, just by the name of the series, you already know its serious show.

6. What was your time on set like filming for General Hospital?
It was short but exciting…we shot a holiday scene and actor Donnell Turner played Santa Claus and I got to sit on his lap for the most part of that scene.

7. How did you enjoy working with a Unicorn in Wish Upon a Unicorn?
That was another fun shoot where we got to work with a real live mini horse that looked like a real unicorn. It was so well trained and knew its cues. Loved that shoot.

8. What is your favorite thing to do on set between takes?
My favorite thing to do in between takes is getting to play games and stuff with the other actors on set, but only when we finish our three hours of schooling. Sometimes the kids bring their own games and electronics so we can play together after we finish schoolwork. I like making friends. I’ve met some very nice people on set and always look forward to seeing them and working with them again.

9. Who have been some of your favorite people to work with?
There are so many to name. Everyone has been so nice to me on set so hard to pick and choose. I’ve worked with many famous people and also some up-and-coming actors like myself. But I have to say that working with Actress/Director Bryce Dallas Howard in The Mandalorian was amazing. She treated us kids like family and made us feel special. I think it was because she is a mom herself. She is a wonderful person to work with. I hope I get to work with her again.

10. Do you have a favorite project that you have done?
I had fun shooting for BUZZFEED on several commercials about yoga and back to school crafting that aired on Social Media. I love seeing them pop up on my feeds even now and reading all the thousands of comments.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I feel like I have been very fortunate in getting some great opportunities in this business. It came much easier than I had expected. The hard part now is if I want to continue, then I need to work much harder. Thank you to organizations like Star Kidz for supporting and promoting people like me. This is a great business to be in and if you have that desire to be in tv and commercials, I would say give it a try. You never where it can lead.
