2021 – Liam Risinger

Liam Risinger is the younger brother of Zakary Risinger who portrays Daniel Morgan on General Hospital. Following in his big brothers footsteps Liam has appeared on several shows including Single Parents, Man with a Plan and Heist.

1. What do you enjoy most about auditioning?
I like the fact that I get to be a new person, but the same person each time. I like to bring things about myself into a character.

2. What was your time on set like filming for Single Parents?
Single Parents was super fun, and I loved getting to where a Captain America costume. It was a fun set with fun people.

3. Do you prefer doing more comedic or dramatic type projects?
I like playing comedic roles more because I get to laugh a lot and make other people laugh, too.

4. What was the best part of working on Man with a Plan?
Man with a Plan was so exciting. Spending a week with the nicest cast learning how the sitcom process works was a little scary and super fun. There was a moment when the some of producers wanted me to possibly do my scenes without glasses. Matt LeBlanc was very supportive and asked me personally what I was most comfortable with. Also, my “grandpa” Kevin Nealon made me laugh the whole time. I got to dump out some spaghetti, that was hilarious.

5. How did you prepare for playing Kurt Von Trapp in a production of The Sound of Music?
We did a 3 week summer camp and rehearsed every day all day. I loved that character. It was also funny that my older brother, Zakary Risinger, played Captain Von Trapp and was my “dad”. I would sometimes have to do auditions upstairs during rehearsals, and I’m currently working on a job I got during that time. It’s a new HBO show that we’ve been filming in Portland.

6. What is the hardest part of doing live theatre? The best part?
The hardest part of live theater is all of the work that gets put in, and the nerves of being LIVE with no chance to do a 2nd take. The best part is how much fun you have doing the show and having a live audience to go through it with you.

7. What was your experience like working on the short Swim to Steven?
I loved Swim to Steven so much. Amy French was an incredible director, and working in a pool was super cool.

8. How do you feel when watching your work on screen?
Sometimes I question myself and wonder if I should have made other choices. Other times I love what I see. The funny thing is that it doesn’t always “look like” what it “felt like”.

9. Who have been some of your favorite people to work with?
I love the people I’m working with on set now, and I also love working with my brother because he makes me feel safe and calm.

10. Do you have a favorite project you have worked on so far?
I’ve got to do several commercials, and those can be really fun. I did a Subaru commercial with a bunch of kids and it was fun to bring some holiday spirit into work.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
What some people may not know is that I am seriously vision-impaired. I can’t see almost at all without my glasses, and some people thought it might hold me back. I have accommodative esotropia and a strabismus. I had to wear an eyepatch for a couple years, and I have special lenses for everything I do. It turns out I can do almost anything other kids do and I even learned to surf wearing special swim goggles!
