Star-Kidz

Molly, Madeline & Tess Sullivan played Hope on One Life to Live from the characters birth straight up until OLTL was cancelled 4 years later.

Q&A is not to be duplicated elsewhere and claimed as their own. STAR-KIDZ EXCLUSIVES

1. How did the girls like working with Roger?

It has mainly been Molly doing all the scenes for the past year because she really enjoys it more than the other two. She really didn’t have much exposure with Roger but he seemed very nice and she seemed comfortable with him on the set. I rarely get to watch them on the set for their scenes because I have to be backstage with the other two. They don’t want the other two on the set when they are filming because it needs to be quiet.

2. How did the girls like shooting their Halloween episode?

They LOVED it! It was so fun for them to get into costume. As of January 2011 only Madeline and Molly are on the “the books” as they cut down from using all three to just needing two of them and Tess looked the least alike. Their favorite part of going to OLTL is getting into their outfits that are laid out for them in their dressing room. I never explained anything about the “cut” to them because we were all still going to OLTL and they are so young that I didn’t think it was necessary. But, when we got there that first day and there were only two outfits there I was like “uh oh”. But, there was a sweater in addition to the outfit so we put the pants and sweater on Tess and then the shirt and shoes on Madeline mixed with what they were already wearing. They were fine with it. I’ve continued to do that every time and it worked out. Molly was always dressed in the full outfit because she is the one we always lead with to go on the set. Madeline and Tess preferred to just sit back with me. So, for the Halloween episode it was kind of sad because Molly and Madeline got to dress up in the Mr. Peanut costume. I felt so bad for Tess so I asked the costume department if they had anything they could put her in and they found this dog costume. So she was a good sport and had fun wearing that one. The girls LOVED looking at themselves in the mirror as Mr. Peanut. This was also a special episode because I was able to watch Molly do her scenes and it was so cute. This was also the first time she had a “line” instead of just one word. She had to say a few words throughout the episode and then at the end Frank Valentini changed the scene from having Danielle say the final line to Molly saying “Stand Up Mommy”. She was doing so well and following direction, so it was nice that he worked with her and saw what she was capable of and made adjustments to incorporate her more.

3. Does Kristen Aldersen (Starr) spend any time with the girls
backstage, or do the girls only see her once they get on set to film?

If we see her in the hallway she always takes time to say hello to the girls and spend some time with them. She has always been so sweet to them and they love her. It has gotten to the point that when we had to go in to the city to tape, they would say “we’re going to see Starr?”. They would be so excited to see her. In the lobby of the ABC studios, there a large life size framed pictures of the actors and they would always run right up to Kristen/Starr’s screaming “Starr” and they would stand in front of it.

4. What is it like for the girls to work with Nik?

He was very nice. They are still so young that they don’t communicate too much to me about what they think but I can tell they are comfortable working with him.

5. Do the girls get to see any of the other OLTL kids backstage?

Yes, but not often. They are in different story lines most of the times so they tape on different days.

6. Do the girls take turns filming?

See #2

7. How do the girls react to seeing themselves on tv?

This was the first year that they were old enough to really get it and it has been mostly Molly. They get excited to see her on the screen. I’ll have to go back to some of the old episodes and show them when they were babies on it.

8. How exciting is it to think the girls are still part of OLTL
so many years later?

Very excited. We were so lucky it lasted as long as it did. I will always wonder how long this could have lasted so it is too bad it got cancelled but it was fun.

9. What is your favorite scenes the girls have done this year?

The Mr. Peanut Halloween episode for sure. I also liked the scenes with Cole.

10. What is your favorite OLTL memory with the girls to date?

Going to Princeton, NJ for two days to film some “on location” scenes. It was an adventure to stay at hotel with them and drive to the different spots for the scenes. It wasn’t easy but it was something I will always remember.

We’d like to thank the Sullivan family for participating in this year’s February Q&A Series!
