2019 – Cameron James McIntyre

Cameron James McIntyre played Thomas in an episode of General Hospital this year. He has also been seen on Conan, A Girl Named Jo, and look for him in the new Netflix series Brews Brothers!

1. How did you get started acting and do you remember your very first audition? What helped you overcome any fears you may have had?
I started acting when I was five years old and I was cast in The Wizard of Oz in the children’s Black Box Theatre for StarLight Productions. I don’t remember my very first audition, but I remember early on how exciting auditions were and it really helped calm my nerves because I found it so much fun. In addition to getting theater experience at StarLight Productions I worked with Bobbie Starr who was my manager at the time and she showed my pictures to an agent and I was able to start going to auditions. She always cheered me on and made it feel like so much fun and that helped calm my nerves too.

2. You have been in the business since you were younger, what has helped you grow in this industry and how has it changed for you now as a teen?
It has been very interesting to see the variation in roles as I get older.

3. You did a comedy skit for an episode of Conan, what was the experience like to film that and what do you like most about doing comedic roles?
Filming the Conan skit was very interesting because we had to get it done very quickly because it may have needed to air at any time. What I find most enjoyable about comedic roles is that they allow me to play outlandish characters.

4. When playing John Darling in a production of Peter Pan how did you prepare for the role and doing live theater? Were you nervous at all performing in front of a live audience?
Although I had some previous experience with musical theater it had been some time since I was in one so naturally I had some rust to shake off, but overall was happy to be performing live again.

5. What was your experience like working on your episode of General Hospital? Were you nervous at all about getting the scene done in one take?
Working on General Hospital was a very interesting experience because it was nothing like anything I had ever worked on before. It was incredibly streamlined and filming was like working with a well oiled machine. It was so fun to be on the set and do the scene as I was in good company working with Ashton whom I’ve known since I was 6, we met at StarLight Productions when we were younger. I also enjoyed meeting and working with Eden. Everyone was so professional and it was a very fun and welcoming environment.

6. You’ve worked on the Brat series A Girl Named Jo, how is it different working on a series meant for an online platform compared to network or cable?
I would say the biggest difference when working on a show like A Girl Named Jo compared to something that would be on network or cable is the direct fan interaction you can see on social media and/or the comment sections.

7. Is there anyone who you have worked with in your career who has had a big impact on you professionally?
I would say the people that have had the largest effect on my career would be the many wonderful directors I have worked with, especially those that were students as I have been able to watch them grow as well.

8. What has been the best advice someone’s given you on or off set?
Some of the best advice I have ever received was that I should always be authentic and that no matter who I’m playing it should be my representation on it.

9. Do you have a favorite project you’ve worked on and why is it your favorite?
I think my favorite project I ever worked on was a student film called From the Woods. It was an amazing experience not only from the wonderful cast and crew, but also from the incredible house and forest that was a center piece for the entire film.

10. Is there anything you are able to share about your role in the series Brews Brothers that you’ve been working on?
Brews Brothers is about two brothers reconnecting after their falling out. My role is shown in flashbacks as I play a younger version of one of the brothers. It was a lot of fun to film and I look forward to everyone seeing it.
