2019 – Ella and Emma Hulen

Ella and Emma Hulen play the role of Donna Corinthos on General Hospital. They also recently shot a commercial.

1. How did Ella and Emma get started in the industry?
When we got newborn photos taken at the hospital and the photographer complimented the girls and recommended we apply to Paloma Model and Talent since twins are used so often for TV. The next few weeks were a whirlwind of sleepless nights and learning how to take care of two babies. After 3 weeks we found time to send in some pictures to PMT. They replied back to us and a few weeks later we got our first audition. When we got to the audition and the Casting Director immediately loved the girls. He said over and over how beautiful they are. He was so sweet and even apologized that he kept saying how beautiful they are. When we left the audition we went to go try a local taco truck trying not to get our hopes up. Before I finished my tacos our agent called. We got the role!

2. How exciting is it to have the girls become part of such an iconic soap like General Hospital?
It is really a dream come true! As a family we are extremely grateful that Ella and Emma were given this opportunity. We are so excited that their very first role is on such a longstanding show with such amazing fans!

3. What was their first day on set like?
Nerve-wracking but amazing! We had no idea what to expect but everyone was so helpful and welcoming. We were nervous about how the girls would react to this new experience, but they did so good! The first scene was the birth scene so Emma had to get a little messy. She got a little fussy but then she took a bottle and calmed down right away. After that she was very curious and looking around at Maurice and Laura. It was a great first day.

4. Is there a way to tell them apart on screen?
On screen and at home the best way (to try) to tell them apart is personality and eye contact. Emma is more reserved and usually has more of a serious expression in her eyes. Ella is very bubbly and her expression is more curious. Sometimes Emma will make a facial expression that looks exactly like Ella’s normal expression and then it can get confusing!

5. What is it like working with Laura Wright?
Working with Laura has been such a pleasure! Immediately she was very in tune with the babies and she picked up on little things like how they like to be held. We couldn’t ask for a better (on-screen) Mom for the girls! She always is paying attention to how the girls are doing and has been such a help keeping them happy while filming. Both girls are very comfortable with her and we just love working with her!

6. What is the best part of having the girls work with Maurice Benard?
The best part of having the girls work with Maurice is seeing them get excited to see him! Both girls love working with him and pay special attention to him. Emma turns her head in the first episode to listen to him because she likes hearing his voice. Ella gets super smiley and giggly when she see him and it is the cutest to watch! We are so grateful that the girls have him as their (on-screen) Dad!

7. Has one of the girls filmed more than the other so far?
Emma has filmed one more episode than Ella so far.

8. How did you react to seeing their first episode air on television?
We were super excited and it was a little emotional! We couldn’t wait for the episode to air and seeing it on TV made the whole thing real. It was so special to see! We invited our family over and we all watched the episode (a few times).

9. Is there anyone in the cast you hope Ella and Emma will have a chance to work with?
We are hoping to get a chance to work with Steve Burton and Kelly Monaco soon!

10. Do you have a favorite scene they have filmed so far?
Yes! (Our favorite scene hasn’t aired as of today but will on 11/27)
The scene is with Laura and Maurice. Laura is holding Ella and Maurice comes in talking about something serious, when Ella see Maurice she just get so excited and starts smiling and babbling. Maurice finishes his line and then says hi to Ella! It was so sweet to watch her so happy!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Both girls are very social and love going to film. Sometimes only one baby is needed for the day and the other baby always seems a little bummed that she didn’t get to go so we make sure and take turns with them.
