2019 – Jude and Ozzy Mcguigan

Jude and Ozzy Mcguigan portrayed Christian Newman on The Young and The Restless. This year the boys wrapped up their 4 year run on the show.

1. What was it like to be part of The Young and the Restless for so many years?
I think we were really lucky to have a long-running part on a great show. They started when they were about two months old so we watched them grow up on the show. Everyone at Y&R was very loving and sweet to them. It was overall a very positive experience.

2. How did Jude and Ozzy enjoy filming the big family scenes on the show?
Those were the least favorite! The big scenes take the longest to rehearse, and the more actors involved in any scene, the more likely something will not work out and they will have to do another take. Jude and Ozzy definitely preferred the days of doing one scene, playing with dinosaurs or cars, and heading out again. The best part about the family scenes was getting to know the other actors- a lot of really good people on that set!

3. Did the boys do anything special to remember their lines?
They never had any real lines. We would get the scripts so we could prepare, but nothing to learn or memorize. From time to time Ozzy would say something (usually irrelevant to the plot) and either production would just keep it or ask for another take. Most of their talking could go unnoticed since they never wore microphones.

4. Did Jude and Ozzy ever have any nicknames for any of the cast or what did they call them when working with them?
Almost everyone was known by their character name, except “Aly” and Joshua Morrow, who they called TV Daddy or Josh. If they had a scene with Victor or Nikki we would tell them to say Grandpa or Grandma.

5. Is there anyone on the show they especially shared a special bond with?
Ozzy did most of Christian’s scenes- he just felt more relaxed in front of all the people- and he really bonded with Josh Morrow. He will still mention him from time to time and it’s been six months since they’ve been on set!

6. How did Jude and Ozzy enjoy working with Mark Grossman?
Mark was really nice and friendly. We did not overlap with him that much- they aged the actor not long after Adam returned.

7. What was the best part of doing the t-ball episode?
That was a fun episode. They had never done tee ball so we weren’t sure what would happen. But Ozzy started taking a swing as they were still setting up. He connected with the ball and hit it right into the crew. It was just a wiffle ball but Ozzy was positively delighted! Everyone was cracking up and making jokes about who he would aim for next.

8. What was the experience like filming on the carnival set?
That was another fun episode! We loved working with Missy and it was cool to see her again. I think they needed three tries for that one. The script had called for Christian to go offscreen while the serious conversation (between Nick and Chelsea) happened. The first try had Nick sending him to a bounce house, but when he said the line, Ozzy just laughed and shook his head, like, silly, there’s no bounce house there! The second time they held cotton candy for him to run for, but then Ozzy said “I don’t like cotton candy!”
We tried a balloon and that finally got him off the set, which was a relief to everyone, because it was a long tracking shot with lots of extras and they needed to reset everyone each time.

9. What have been your favorite scenes for the boys to film on YR?
That’s tough, there were so many! They always liked when other kids were on set, so probably the last Halloween one. All the twins were there in double costumes and eating candy and just running around playing together.

10. Overall what is your favorite YR memory in having the boys be a part of the cast?
The last day was amazing, after the last scene everyone gave them a big round of applause and there were lots of hugs and even a few tears. It was so sweet and made me realize really what a great job it had turned out to be, they just made us feel so appreciated.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Just a thank you to the fans and all the crew that kept the show going! Our family is spread out across the country but when the boys were on TV everyone would get in touch. It was pretty exciting for our extended family to have someone on TV. Thank you SO much.
