2019 – Vivienne Rutherford

Vivienne Rutherford played an Older Arianna on Days of Our Lives back in 2014. This year she has been busy with an episode of The Orville, as well as voice over work and a live theatre production of Cats!

1. What is the coolest thing you have gotten to do at an audition?
When I have had callbacks or auditions it’s amazing when you get to go to the movie studio lots like Dreamworks, Disney, and other places, you get to see all of this amazing artwork. It lines all of the halls. I have seen so much incredible art just in those hallways.

2. If you could film a project anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
If I could film a project anywhere it would be Tokyo. It would be Tokyo because It’s really exotic there and there are a lot of cool things, and good food like sushi and curry. I went there when I was little (But I obviously don’t remember that) I went again when I was 7 and have dreamt of going back ever since. Plus, they have really cool stickers!

3. When doing voice over work do you get to see what your character looks like before recording or do you find out when you watch the final cut?
Sometimes you will get to see your character but I wouldn’t count on it. When I did an episode of Princess Palace Pets I got to see what my character was going to look like. But other times like when I did Myth: A Frozen Tale I didn’t get to see anything. I would say the most detailed version of my character I’ve ever seen was this summer when I did work on an animated feature film. Not only did I get to see my character, but I got to see the posters for the film and sign a few!

4. What was the best part of working on your episode of The Orville?
I would say the best part was when the director (Seth McFarland) invited me to watch what I did on set that night. Even though it wasn’t edited yet it was really cool to see what I had just shot!

5. How did you enjoy filming with Chad L. Coleman?
Even though we weren’t in a scene together he was very nice. What happened was I was getting some school homework done, and he was also waiting for his scene too. He and my dad started chatting, and it turned out that they went to the same school! I started talking too and he was very nice we laughed and chatted until it was time to do my scene.

6. What was the experience like playing Bombalurina in a production of Cats?
I LOVED it. I love playing a different character and losing myself in that world. I still remember learning the dance moves and reading the entire script together. But the best part is when you see what the set looks like — It was so much fun.

7. What went into getting you into character to go out on stage?
If I have time I really think about how the character is feeling in the scene that I’m about to do. If you don’t have time just be yourself and either way, you’ll probably still kill it!

8. Were you nervous at all going out in front of a live audience?
Oh my goodness YES. But I think it’s good to be nervous as long as you don’t go crazy. If you think, well I don’t need to practice I’m going to be amazing — the more likely you are to mess up. But when you’re a little nervous you usually think about what you could do better and that’s not bad at all.

9. What do you like most about doing live theater?
I would say the applause after you finish a number. It’s really nice to know that someone appreciates all the work that me and my castmates have put into doing something.

10. Is there anything you can share about your role in Sky West and Crooked?
Yes! I got to play a girl named Annie. It’s actually based on something that really happened to the director. It was also nice because it was set in a bowling alley and the other kids and I really got to bowl! It was also fun to work with with Matt Jones he was really good at playing a bad dad!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Fun fact: I went to Costa Rica for Thanksgiving this year, nope no turkey at all! I got to ride on an ATV that my dad drove and I went snorkeling in the ocean for the first time! I went on a hike to hot springs that were made hot by a volcano! But the volcano wasn’t erupting with lava or anything but, there was like boiling mud and steam it was amazing!
