2019 – Ashley Gerasimovich

Ashley Gerasimovich is the younger sister of Alexa Gerasimovich who played Kathy Martin on All My Children. Ashley is best known for playing the role of Delilah Parker on the TBS comedy The Detour which recently wrapped its four season run. You may also recognize her from the film We Need to Talk About Kevin, her recurring role on Louie, and more!

1. The final season of The Detour picked up after a bit of time had passed, did you know what had happened to Delilah and where she was starting out or did you find out more as we did with each episode?
The final season of The Detour, I received the scripts one at a time, just like how everyone would watch one episode at a time. It was funny how on the edge of my seat I was waiting for each new script. I was so curious to find out what would happen to Delilah! I had to wait just like the audience!

2. Delilah had her escape plan together for quite some time it turns out, how did you react to finding out how all of these scenes you’d filmed for episodes were actually pieces of her plan in the end?
I was so surprised! Jason had told us about something happening to one of the kids, but as I was filming those scenes, I didn’t suspect a thing! When I read the last script, I was just as shocked as you guys were. Jason laughed as I rambled on about how surprised I was the next day.

3. When you first started on the show you and Delilah were pre-teens and you’ve played her into her teenage years, what was the best part of playing one character for several years and how have you both grown during that time?
I think Delilah’s personality influenced my own, and vice versa. Going back to The Detour year after year was great because I was revisiting my second family. Delilah eventually became a part of my sense of humor and other aspects of myself. We both matured and became better people throughout the series as well.

4. While the Parker family is quite dysfunctional, what do you think made this family work and how would you describe them to anyone who maybe hasn’t seen the show or all of the episodes?
I think the Parker family’s love for each other kept them stuck together like glue. Even though Delilah ran away, she eventually ended up back with her family again because she loved those crazy idiots! I would describe The Parker’s as crazy, each in their own way, but they compliment each other well enough to make the family work. Most importantly, they love each other a lot!

5. How long did it take to get the helium in the cave scene right and do you have any funny stories from filming that part of the episode?
The cave was so cool! There was no real helium being used while we filmed, they added the voice effect later on. But two of us had to walk on mine tracks, and we were constantly helping each other balance while reciting lines, which was tricky! The mine was a real abandoned mine, it was so great to film inside of it!

6. A lot of the final episodes of season four took part outside as the family was being held captive in Russia, what are some of the challenges in filming scenes outdoors compared to in a studio?
It’s always great to film outside, the scenery is so interesting, and I love to see different places! The weather was a challenge at times because it can be cold and rainy in Vancouver, but we managed to make it work. It was a new and welcome experience!

7. Sadly season four is the last season of The Detour, is there anyone in the cast or crew that you still keep in touch with?
Of course! My Mom became good friends with Liam’s Mom, and we have Jason’s email too. I also have Liam’s cell number. It’s always great to hear from them.

8. If you could have written the end to Delilah Parker’s story, what would you have liked to see for your character?
Well, actually, I think the ending was great! We had amazing writers on The Detour, and I think one of my favorite parts of playing Delilah was driving a car! That was so fun, and I wouldn’t change a thing!

9. If you had to pick a favorite overall moment or scene from the series what would it be and why?
Well, my absolute favorite scene of filming The Detour was flying in the plane! The scenes were so fun to film, and shaking around in a plane simulator was something I never saw myself doing! It was, hands down, one of my favorite moments.

10. What else have you been up to this year?
Well, I went on vacation to Europe with my family, and it was amazing! I’ve also started school and I’m also working on getting my black belt in Tae Kwon Do! I’ve been auditioning and look forward to see what the future holds.
