2019 – Derek Jae

Derek Jae is the younger brother of Jyllina Skye. He has done multiple short films, commercials, and filmed for Fresh Off the Boat!

1. How did you get started acting?
My sister Jyllina was acting and her team knew that she had siblings so my sister Jazlynn and I were asked if we could go out on auditions too.

2. What was the experience like filming your Nick Jr. promo?‘
It was awesome because my sister Jazlynn and my mom and Dad were in the commercial too. We were making fake school lunches and I got to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. My dad was throwing oranges at Jazlynn she caught them all!

3. What was the best part of working on Fresh Off the Boat?
Definitely getting to be with the other kids. There’s a lot of down time and I am still friends with some of the kids I met.

4. How did you enjoy working for Fairmont Miramar?
I loved the ride in the jeep down to the beach! We had a camera following us and we got to stand up and wave our hands in the air. When we got to the beach we got to play in the sand and then run down to the water to play in the ocean.

5. What do you do to celebrate a booking?
We celebrate with ice-cream! My mom makes it, she can do any flavor.

6. What do you like most about working with lots of kids on set like when filming Little Cousin?
I love making new friends. The studio teachers bring lots of games to keep us busy and sometimes my mom buys the games that we like a lot.

7. How cool was it to get to work with your siblings on The Pastor?
My sister Jyllina was a lead in The Pastor so it’s always fun getting to watch her. Jyllina got to watch mine and Jazlynn’s scenes from the monitor and I got to watch Jyllina’s scenes. It rained one of the days we were on set and I watched Jyllina from under a tent with the director and script supervisor.

8. What was your time on set like working on your Niagara Water commercial?
I ate so much frosting! One scene I ran past my birthday cake and swiped my finger across the icing. I got to eat it every time.

9. Who have been some of your favorite people to work with?
My family! Its so fun to watch us all when it comes out.

10. Do you have a favorite commercial you have done and why is it your favorite?
My favorite is my commercial for Chevrolet. I got to pretend to be a bull fighter and the actor in the scene with me was standing on a apple box which was weird to me but when the commercial came out he was half man half horse!
