2019 – Madeline Valdez

Madeline Valdez plays Beth Spencer on The Bold and The Beautiful. She debut on the show as Phoebe Forrester and has dealt with some major storylines.

1. How did you react when you found out Madeline booked The Bold and the Beautiful?
I was driving home from her audition when i received the email confirming they chose Madeline, i immediately pulled off the freeway and started crying tears of happiness. I called my husband, parents and brother to tell everyone the good news. I was so happy! I kept telling Madeline, “you got it baby girl, you got it”

2. What’s it like to have Madeline be part of such an iconic soap?
It’s very surreal. I thank God everyday. We are so grateful for this amazing opportunity for Madeline.

3. What is a typical day on set like?
It’s pretty fun actually, since they are babies and have no lines to learn. It has a lot to do with the entire cast and crew too, who always makes us feel like family. Madeline and River have it made, they play together in the dressing room until it’s time to film. When they take Madeline on set, i always carry a small bag that contains, a pacifier, bottle, snacks, “set toys” (i keep certain toys only for when she is on set) this keeps her entertained during filming. The set does have their own toys and she loves those too. Filming with babies is pretty fast, they have to try and get it in the first couple shots before they start getting bored. Madeline has always been a very chill and in tune baby, so we have only had a couple times where the scenes took a little longer and Madi needed a break.

4. Was it hard for her to film the episodes where “Beth” is taken from “Steffy” and handed over to “Hope”?
Actually, Annika and Jackie were worried because they had to cry in those scenes and they didn’t want to upset or worry Madeline, but Madeline did amazing, it couldn’t have gone any smoother. I think they got it in one or two takes.

5. What is the best part of having Madeline film with Scott Clifton?
Scott is so cool, he is great with all the kids on the show. He can do impressions of different characters and always makes Madeline smile. Madeline has always loved Scott. He’s always making everyone laugh.

6. How does Madeline like working with Zoe Pennington?
It’s always fun when all the babies get together. Zoe is usually in her own dressing room, so her mom and i will try to get together before and after filming to play together Or during breaks. If we have scenes together, we try to get them to interact a little before the scenes. They’re always great when around each other.

7. What is it like to work with Annika Noelle?
It’s always great seeing Annika. Madeline has really bonded with Annika the most and i have to thank Annika for that. She takes time to come visit the babies in their dressing room every chance she gets. One of Madeline’s favorite thing is to watch herself on tv, and every time she sees Annika on, she points and says “ooooohhh”. She always is happy to see Annika.

8. How does she enjoy filming with Jacqueline MacInnes Wood?
Madeline loves working with Jacqueline. She was with her for the majority of the scenes filmed in the beginning of her career. So she is very comfortable around Jackie. And Jackie is great with kids as well, she is one of those moms who you can tell were made to mother.

9. Are there any funny behind the scenes stories from Madeline filming that you can share?
When she was in the crib and Douglas started reveling that Phoebe is Beth, Madeline kept laughing when Douglas would say his lines. I couldn’t help but laugh with her, it was so cute.

10. Do you have any favorite scenes Madeline has filmed so far?
The wedding scene was my favorite because the directors really wanted Madeline to look at Annika and say “MAMA” and she ended up doing exactly what they asked for and more. We practiced at home for about a week for this scene. All the directors were on set this day, usually they are behind the scenes and we can’t see them, so it felt like a big deal that they were standing there, working, literally right next to us. I was so nervous for Madeline but had all the faith she would do it and she did. And then at the very end she even clapped her hands in the scene. It was perfect and i was so proud of her.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Yes, i would like to add a HUGE thanks to Madeline’s set teacher, Debbie, who is always so kind to us and helps us with whatever we need, also thanks to Lisa, the stage manager who always takes the time to chat with us. Everyone on set to the actors and set crew, who have been so wonderful to us, we couldn’t be more humble to be apart of such a wonderful group of talented people.
