2019 – O’Neill Monahan

O’Neill Monahan plays Rocco Falconeri on General Hospital. This year he has been seen on Cousins For Life, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and has film and commercial projects in the works!

1. What was your experience like filing your episodes of Jimmy Kimmel Live?
Filming Jimmy Kimmel Live is awesome! Jimmy and everyone that works on the show is so nice, and they’re really supportive. The rehearsal is almost as much fun as the performance. I love when they call me!

2. Were you nervous at all going out in front of a live audience?
Not really. The producers were so great at making us calm and collected. They let us know that in worst case they would just have us re-film that part, and just knowing that makes you less nervous.

3. What has been the coolest thing you’ve ever gotten to do on any set?
Probably getting to film in the purple slime for “Cousins for Life.” I got to work with Larry the stunt coordinator, and I got to meet Omar, who’s in charge of all the slime at Nickelodeon. Plus, Dallas is super fun. We both got covered and we were slipping and sliding everywhere.

4. What is a typical work day like when filming a commercial?
It’s a lot of waiting around. You arrive super early in the morning, get in wardrobe, do some schoolwork, film a little bit, wait a bunch, eat lunch, film some more, wait some more, and so on. Every time they move the camera they have to move all the lights too, so it takes a lot of patience.

5. Do you have a favorite thing about getting to play Rocco on General Hospital?
Yes! I love Rocco’s style. His clothes are awesome and Billy (who works in wardrobe for GH) always has the best stuff for me to wear. Plus, Rocco is super kind and still really playful, which makes him fun to play. I’m always excited when I get a new script from the writers.

6. How did you prepare for filming your episodes of General Hospital where Rocco is upset? Do you have any tricks to make you feel sad?
I mostly prepare by first memorizing the words, and then I add in the emotion. Each time I practice it, I try to think about something that made me sad or frustrated, and then bring that feeling to the scene more and more. My dad always says to give it my all and let the director or Frank tell me if they want less emotion.

7. What do you like about filming with Mark Lawson?
Mark is such a nice guy. He’s really funny and a really good actor. When he’s playing Dustin in a scene and he looks me in the eyes, he’s so believable that I don’t have to think about what I’m doing. He and Emme make it easy for me.

8. How did you enjoy working with Wes Ramsey?
Wes is great. He’s also a good actor and easy to work with. Plus he’s super tall. Hopefully, I’ll get to work more with him!

9. What have been your favorite scenes to do this year?
That scene I got to film with Wes was probably my favorite. When I think about how sad I’d be if one of my parents left, it makes me really feel bad for Rocco. I liked that Rocco got to talk about his feelings.

10. Is there anything you can share about your role in Let Us In?
Well, it was so fun getting to film a movie. And Mackenzie was AMAZING to work with. My character is super smart, and all of his lines are a lot of fun. I can’t wait til it comes out!

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I play baseball. And baseball is a lot like acting. All you can do is try your best. Sometimes it’s frustrating, but if you stay focused on what you can control, you won’t stay frustrated for long.
