2018 – Dexter Hobert

Dexter Hobert played Young Drew on General Hospital during all of Franco’s flashbacks to when he and Drew were children. This year he also did voice over work for Summer Camp Island!

1. How did you get started acting?
Both of my parents were actors so when I was a baby I went with my mom to see her agent and they asked if they could send me out for a project. I did a Target commercial when I was 9 months old and then a year later my moms friend just randomly submitted me to LA Models when I was about 2 because she thought I was cute. We got a call saying they wanted to meet me and that’s when things started to happen.

2. What is it like doing voice over work for a cartoon?
It’s not scary at all. The people are always so nice when I am in the room recording. I didn’t know how to read at all when I first started so they would just give me the lines and I’d say it. They’d give me different directions so I could say it a few ways.

3. How do you enjoy working in the recording studio?
It’s so fun. I love playing around with the lines.

4. What do you like most about auditioning?
You get to have a lot of fun pretending.

5. What was it like to have worked on an iconic soap opera such as General Hospital?
I liked it. It was cool. I was definitely scared the first time. But everyone was so nice. My first scene was with Roger Howarth, the actor who plays Franco. I messed up and he told me it was ok and everyone does it. I then relaxed and LOVED it.

6. How did you react when you booked the role?
I really wanted a Nintendo Switch but my mom said I had to work to earn it. She joked if I booked General Hospital maybe then I could save some money to get one. She didn’t actually think it would happen. So when I found out I got it I was so excited! I was driving home from the call back when my agent Alicia with CMT called. I said, “looks like I’m going to get my Switch!”

7. What was it like working with Greg Evigan?
In the scene I was in with him I was laying at the bottom of the stairs unconscious. We shot it pretty quickly. He was very professional.

8. How did you enjoy working with Lucas Broitman?
We became friends fast. I liked having someone my age to play with while we were waiting to go on set.

9. What was it like to see your scenes airing on TV?
It was super cool. It’s so weird seeing me there.

10. Have you been working on anything else recently?
I shot a Stub Hob commercial a few months ago and was on avail for a Progressive commercial but in the end I didn’t get it. I’ve just been auditioning. Now that I am 7 the scripts have gotten a lot bigger with more to memorize. So it’s definitely become more work but I like it. My parents make games out of the memorizing to help me.
