2018 – Jude and Ozzy McGuigan

Jude and Ozzy McGuigan play the role of Christan Newman on The Young and The Restless. This year the boys have been enjoying their time on the show.

1. What is the first thing Jude and Ozzy like to do when they arrive at the YR studio?
They always check in the studio teacher’s office, because if there are other kids on set that day, that’s where they’ll be. We also really love the studio teachers!

2. What was it like to film scenes in a vehicle when Chelsea took the boys?
It was a little hectic. Neither twin wanted to be buckled down, and they would talk loudly unless we unstrapped them. Unfortunately that meant Melissa had to do her long, tearful monologue and tap into all this emotion even as she could see a bunch of shenanigans in the rear view mirror.

3. Now that the boys are older do they choose who goes in to film?
They do, but sometimes production will have a note also.

4. How did Jude and Ozzy enjoy being a part of the wedding this year?
On set, it was fine, but they had to wear the tuxedo for I think three days of taping. The next time we were headed to set they were like “nooooo not the black suit!”

5. What is the filming process like once Jude and Ozzy are on set?
A lot of the other twins go on set together, but mine really distract each other. They’re much better separated. Usually the production manager brings down the working twin during scene rehearsal, depending on the scene, they may stay in the set during rehearsal, or come off until it’s time to tape again. If there’s a lot of blocking or direction, I will take a walk with the twin, or sit off to the side and look at a book. But many times they’re just playing with Joshua or Aly, or in someone’s lap, and then it might be easier to just stay put during rehearsal.

6. What has it been like working with Sharon Case more often again?
It’s always great, she’s really nice. But in the very beginning, as babies, they would go to her easily. When she first came back as a mom figure they had gotten used to working with Josh, so they had to take a minute to reconnect. Just like on the show!

7. How did they enjoy working with Jordi Vilasusso?
He gave them a car! They’re 3, that’s all it takes.

8. What was the experience like filming with Marla Adams?
I was a bit worried they wouldn’t be able to follow the script directions, but she’s such a force, I think all the scenes were one take. Her character clearly felt a strong connection to “Christian” and they just responded in kind.

9. Is there anyone in the cast the boys spend time with off set, but don’t get to film with or film with often?
Not really. Their dressing room is across from hair and makeup, so we see a lot of the actors. Amelia Heinle and Melissa Ordway always say hi, and are really friendly- you can tell they are great moms in real life.

10. Do you have a favorite moment/scene the boys have been a part of this year?
I can’t remember the actual scene, but it was past nap time, and we were still in rehearsal. Ozzy started putting his finger up his nose, and I was so embarrassed. Then Melody (Nikki) pretended she was picking her nose too, completely deadpan, as she ran her lines. And then Eric Braeden did it too. They did the whole rehearsal as if it was just normal, while the rest of us were dying laughing. Those actors are legends!

Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Just how grateful we are to have had so many great days on set. Love the cast, love the crew.
