Q&A

11 Days ‘Til Christmas!

Dylan Mueller is Declan’s older brother. This year he has been seen in episodes of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, worked on a film, and been busy raising money for the Matthew Fetzer Foundation!

1. What was your first day on set like for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel?

It was incredible! The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel takes place in New York in the late 1950s so being there really was like stepping out of a time machine. Everything, from the cars on the street to all of the old-timey clothes was spot on. Plus, we filmed at Morningside Heights up near Columbia University which looks so old-timey to begin with.

2. How did you enjoy returning for a second episode?

It was flattering because they called personally to ask if I was interested in coming back. I guess I did something right! I got to hang out near Rachel Brosnahan a lot, which was special. She’s Midge Maisel. She was really cool and nice to me.

3. What was it like getting dressed up in 1950s clothes to film?

Hot! A little too hot, actually! We filmed in New York in the summer wearing period clothing for New York in the winter so I was wearing plenty of wool and tweed. They were good about keeping us cooled off with drinks and things and it was fun to dress up- they even gave me a closely-cropped 1950s-style haircut.

4. What was it like meeting Jameel Warney of the Team USA basketball team?

Jameel Warney is not famous…yet. But he is a total winner and he will be playing in the NBA some time soon. He is the greatest player ever to play for Stony Brook University, which is on Long Island and one of my father’s alma maters. He is also a really nice guy who even donated to my Wrestle for a Cure charity to Pin Cancer. That was really thoughtful.

5. Do you have a favorite thing that you’ve gotten to do at an audition this year?

I hope this is okay to say, but to tell you the truth, I never really go on auditions and neither does Declan. Not often. We pretty much have been lucky enough to have been asked to do some things this past year so we did them when the project was a good fit. So, while we know we may never be huge stars if we continue doing it this way, it is flattering to know that some people have found us pleasant to work with and have wanted to have us around for things. I’m grateful.

6. If you could work on a project anywhere in the world where would you like it to be?

I’ve never been out of the United Sates, so something in Europe or Hawaii would be a dream come true.

7. What inspired you to run a lemonade stand in support of the Matthew Fetzer Foundation?

Thanks for asking! Not sure how that all started, but I’ve really just been trying to all the good I can ever since I was old enough to talk and walk. I think we all should. The lemonade stand isn’t just any lemonade stand either – it’s raised many thousands of dollars for charity since I’ve been doing it and I’m proud of all of the good it’s been able to do and thankful for the generosity of others.

8. Can you tell us more about the charity?

Matthew Fetzer was a boy who lived near our community a while back. He was extremely sick for most of his life and spent a lot of time in cancer wards of special hospitals with a lot of other sick, usually terminally ill kids. His goal was that when he got better, he wanted to start a program that could maybe give those kids a break and make them happy for a little while. He died when he was ten, before he got the chance to do it, but his parents made his idea into a reality. They distribute toys; host parties, host ice cream sundae parties, and provide financial and emotional support to children with cancer and their families. I never knew Matthew but I feel as though I did. I’m a cross country runner and their fundraiser 5K is always my favorite event of the year to compete in because of the good the proceeds do. His parents and their colleagues are doing some great things. Learn more at: www.matthewfetzerfoundation.org

I have also been a wrestler for a long time and for the past two seasons I have been working to Wrestle For A Cure through Pin Cancer, a really great organization that uses the platform of the great sport of wrestling to raise awareness and funds to support patient care and research initiatives at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Last year I was a top five fundraiser in the country. All goes to help kids battling cancer- one of the best causes I can imagine. Please consider helping me help children battling cancer, or at least share this with others: www.getinvolved.pincancer.org/fundraiser/1214279

9. How did you enjoy filming with Declan for The Land of Steady Habits?

That really was a dream come true. I think I told you last year that my goals in entertainment were to one day appear in a film with my brother and also to voice a cool cartoon character. I could never have imagined that it would take place so soon, if ever! Everyone on that set was so wonderful and I’m so excited about its release.

10. Is there anything else you can share about your part in the film?

It’s a really character-driven adult movie so, seeing as how I’m not an adult and I’m not one of the four main characters, my part is obviously not major. But it seems as though it’s a special movie and it is definitely made by special people and I am so proud to have been a part of it. Nicole Holofcener is really smart and kind and it seems as though she’s made a lot of good movies in the past so I’m grateful to have been a part of all that. She was so down-to-earth and even though she was in charge of everything, she made a lot of time for talking with Declan and me and really treated us like stars- which we really aren’t. But we were the only children. I really liked her.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Happy holidays to everyone! Do all the good you can! Thanks to the Star-Kidz peeps for always being nice to Declan and me and including us in the fun stuff you do.

1. What was your time on set like filming your A&W commercial?

A&W was really fun because first I got to work with one of my friends Ruby Jay, and also because all the kids on the set we also do musical theater and like to sing so we sang a lot during our breaks.

2. What was the experience like performing at Universal City Walk?

That was really cool because the tech on their stage was amazing the lights the sound for a live performance was probably the best I’ve ever experienced.

I feel really proud to have been able to work on such iconic soap operas. The professionalism on set is just an amazing experience.

That was an incredible experience because not only was it a live television performance but it was also filmed in front of a huge crowd on stage. The energy was exciting and intense.

5. How did you enjoy getting dressed up as Wonder Woman?

That was really cool because the costumes were handmade for each person to fit you exactly and the details on the costumes were like nothing you can buy in any store. I still have mine. They let us keep them.

6. Did you do anything special to prepare performing in front of a crowd that large?

No, I actually didn’t realize how large the crowd was until I was out on the stage.

Well musical theater preparation is a lot of work I actually worked on that role for about three months before we opened the show.

8. What was it like taking the stage on opening night?

It was actually really hectic because I was working on the A&W commercial that day and I had to rush straight from filming to opening night and I actually missed walking the red carpet. I think we have some funny footage of me running down the red carpet all by myself as I was late for call time.

9. Who have been some of your favorite people to work with this year?

I was involved in a really cool film project and the director Natalia Hermida and her team were absolutely amazing. I learned so much from being on set with them and watching the way they all work together.

10. Is there anything you can share about your upcoming short film?

I was so thrilled to be involved with this project because all of my acting had to be done without any lines. It was all emotive through facial and body gesture.

Leilani Brosnan filmed an episode of The Neighbors and has a large resume of theatrical, commercial, and print work. This year she has worked for Nickelodeon, Kohl’s, petitePARADE and you may have spotted her in your local Guess Factory store too!

1. How did you get involved with the Looking Ahead program run by SAG?

I think my mom got an email from Looking Ahead about joining so we did! I have gone to about 12 events and they are all fabulous! We have done Lazer Tag, visited farms, done charity work and had picnics among other things.

2. What has been your favorite trip to attend with them?

My favorite Looking Ahead event was the Knott’s Berry Farm day even though I had to leave early for an audition! Commitment!

3. What was your time on set like shooting Under Armour for Kohl’s?

We shot Under Amour at a school track field in the heat! There were a few other kids shooting with me so that made it fun. We did many athletic poses and played mini games while they shot us modeling adorable new styles for Kohl’s. The weird thing is – it was well paid but I have only seen one photo used from that shoot – I guess I should be happy though since it was of me!

4. Do you have a favorite shot you did for your petitePARADE editorial?

Shooting the editorial for petitParade was probably my favorite job so far this year and we all did it for free! We sailed out on a yacht from Marina Del Rey out into the ocean with some nice other kids and really cool nautical style fashions from the best designers! Some of the shots were a bit scary since we were going pretty fast and I tend to get sea sick! Luckily I didn’t this time and the shots turned out really great! Wish I could do more shoots like this one.

5. How do you choose your wardrobe for your photoshoots with Rachel Images?

Rachel Images does all the amazing styling for the shoots with really cool clothes and accessories and props. Sometimes she asks us to bring a few items like basic shoes or tops but mostly Rachel does everything like making unbelievable crowns out of shells, headpieces from bird feathers and the last shoot her sister came and did some unusual braiding of my hair! There is no other photographer out there like her and now she is in demand worldwide and flies to Russia to shoot, etc.

6. How did you enjoy shooting for Guess Factory?

I think I shot for Guess Factory about 3 times this year so people are going to be sick of seeing me in the store windows all around the world! They are really the nicest company to shoot for out there. We usually shoot the factory photos in their headquarters in downtown LA which is massive and I don’t even think I have been in all the buildings! We always arrive to an amazing breakfast and relaxed atmosphere. Their jobs are No Stress just fun! We seen to wrap fairly quickly so the only bad thing is that my mom usually makes me go to school after.

7. What was the experience like auditioning for a lead role for a Disney project?

Getting to audition at the Disney Studios with the actual Disney casting staff is always a huge honor even if you know they have probably already cast the role before they even see you! It’s just nice to be asked! And I guess you never know!

8. What was the best part of filming your Origami Artist segment for Nickelodeon?

The kids they picked for the Nickelodeon shoot were all really cute and extremely talented. I can’t wait to see the commercial which is taking a really long time to produce! I think it will be called something like “You Be You” so be sure to watch for it!

9. Who have been some of your favorite people to work with this year?

Always the GUESS staff – there is none better out there.

10. What has been your favorite project to work on this year?

My favorite project so far this year? Hmmm….actually they were all great and the year’s not over yet!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

In closing I will say that filming editorial with jimjam.jimjam for their Instagram account was really fun and different and the photos turned out to be amazing! I am also doing a shoot for a Mermaid calendar which will be pretty fun. Also, middle school has been so challenging that we really had to cut back on my auditions and jobs this year which has been unfortunate for my bank account but mainly because working is a lot more fun than going to school!

FTS opened doors for me to work with HipHop Real Estate. I’m able to interview A list actors & singers.

6. Do you have a favorite segment you have worked on?

My favorite segment is with Kevin Frazier from Entertainment Tonight & Anthony Anderson from black-ish. It was a Luncheon with Anthony Anderson, Kevin Fraiser told me to stay away from Anthony Anderson and called me Dr. Brianni Walker, and compared me to Oprah Winfrey. Anthony Anderson was very silly. He had promised to put me on black-ish. My other segment was 48th NAACP Image Awards. Interviewing Jussie Smollette, Cheryl Underwood, Loni Love, Aisha Tyler, Miles Brown, Lorretta Devine, Cris Phee the creator of Doc McStuffins, Well everyone was fabulous to interview. Such a wonderful time.

Chuck E. Cheese was my first national commercial. I was 8 years old when it aired. I was doing homework when it came on.. It was so weird watching myself on tv.

8. What was your reaction when you saw your Pfizer commercial air for the first time?

My reaction when I first saw Pfizer, I screamed, jumped up and down, and recited my lines and relived the scene. So funny!

9. Who have been some of your favorite people to work with?

Love working with Jennette McCurdy, Ariana Grande, Ben Affleck, Live By Night, Kevin Hart & Ed Helm on Captain Underpants, K.Michelle, Kenya Moore Music Video and Jason Cook, Days Of Our Lives (Shawn Douglas Brady)on his new film The Creatress.

10. What has been your favorite project to do so far?

My most favorite project was filming Niara. I play Imani, kidnapped in Kenya. The role was very challenging because I only had one line. It was all emotional. I had to learn how to spy and help kill foreigner visiting our country. Everything I’ve done was my favorite. I truly love interviewing celebrities, and working with new people. But I would have to say the No Bullying Campaign. We need to fight back against bullying. I enjoyed working and interviewing celebrities on the red carpet.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I hope to co-host with Kevin Frazier, Ellen Degeneres, Wendy Williams, Steve Harvey, The Real, The Talk. If you dream big, set goals, never take no as a setback. Keep going, God has something better for you.
