Alabama Local Interview
Nolan Gould’s official bio says he was born in New York and lives in California.
But the 13-year-old who stars as Luke Dunphy on the ABC sitcom “Modern Family” also has strong ties to Alabama. Soon after he was born, his family moved to Phenix City, while his father, who is from Mobile, was stationed at Fort Benning.
“I consider Alabama where I grew up,” Nolan says. “I was there until I was 5, when we moved to California.”
Nolan says he has “a lot of great memories” from his time in the state.
“We had lots of fun there,” he says. “I kind of miss it, you know, going fishing for catfish and catching tadpoles and four-wheeling and all of that. I’m always kind of hoping that I’ll get a movie that shoots in Alabama so I can go back and kind of get a break from my city life.”
That city life is keeping him mighty busy. For three seasons, he has starred as Luke Dunphy, the youngest of three children of Claire and Phil Dunphy (Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell). The Dunphys are one of the three families depicted in the Emmy-winning sitcom.
“I don’t get to work a lot with the people outside of the Dunphy family, but I’m really close to everyone in that family,” Nolan says. “The only person who isn’t like a relative to me is Ty. He’s not really a dad to me; he’s more like my best friend. We’re always joking around, thinking about how to survive the zombie apocalypse and having Nerf wars and stuff like that.”
Bowen, Nolan says, is like “my mom in real life.”
“She’s always fussing and fixing my hair, and she’s always cleaning things off my face,” he says.
Nolan’s curly hair caused a problem, particularly in season two, he says.
“Ty and Julie would always run their hands through my hair,” he says. “So by the end of the day, I left work looking like Einstein, with my hair all sticking out.”
Fans of “Modern Family” would probably not use Einstein in the same sentence with Luke Dunphy, who is always getting in trouble and coming up with hair-brained schemes. The 13-year-old who plays him is actually a member of Mensa.
“I don’t think a lot of me is in Luke,” Nolan says. “I think I used to be a lot more like Luke than I am now. Back in Alabama, me and my friend, Ryan, were always getting into so much trouble, but now I don’t do Luke kinds of things anymore. I do have that kind of curious aspect that Luke has, and I think about doing some of the things he does, but I just stop myself from doing them because I’d probably get hurt.”
And Luke may be smarter than we think, Nolan says.
“I’m starting to believe that Luke’s actually like a super-genius and disguising himself as not being very smart,” he says. “He’s come up with some super-smart schemes this season, like freezing the money in the icebox. .¤.¤. It’s kind of cool to be like normal Nolan and then go to the set and be Luke and just be crazy.”
As for Luke’s future, Nolan says it could go several ways.
“Luke’s one of those people that it’s kind of hard to tell the future,” he says. “He could come up with the most amazing idea ever and be like a multi-billionaire, or he could be living with his mom for a while. I don’t know.”
In Nolan’s future is the upcoming horror film “Ghoul,” more “Modern Family” and learning to play the banjo that Ellen DeGeneres recently gave him.
“Our whole family is musical, and we had to clear out a room for our music room,” he says. “We’ve got two electric guitars, an acoustic guitar, an upright bass, a keyboard, piano, drum set and two amps. My family back in Alabama really thinks the banjo is cool because I want to learn a lot of bluegrass and folk music on it.”
In his spare time, he’ll continue school, study acting and enjoy the frills of “Modern Family,” like attending the recent Golden Globe awards.
“All these awards shows and things, it’s just so awesome,” Nolan says. “I’m just a little kid from Alabama just living my dream, you know? I wanted to be an actor, but I never thought that I’d get to the point where I’d be at an awards show. It’s just such an honor. I’m really blessed to be where I am now.”

Enterteenment Interview
Emily recently sat down for an interview with the Enterteenment blog about acting, family and more. Here's what she had to say
Adaeze: I understand that your first film was The Secret Life of Bees. What did it feel like working with great actresses like Queen Latifah and Dakota Fanning?
Emily: It was really cool because my mother showed me all of their movies. I am a big fan of Dakota Fanning. Queen Latifah, too, but huge fan of Dakota.
Adaeze: You also acted in the television soap opera All My Children, was your experience in The Secret Life of Bees similar to your experience in the soap opera or different?
Emily: It was a little different because, I mean, one was a movie and the other was a television show. It was also a different group of people. Everybody I have worked with has been so nice. That made it really sad leaving the set.
Adaeze: Who are some of your favorite actresses that you look up to?
Emily: I really look up to actresses like Elle Fanning, Dakota Fanning, and Meryl Streep.

Round Up!
We're introducing a new monthly feature at the site today! In many magazines you'll see round up features where a question is asked and several actors share their answer. We're aiming to do one at Star-Kidz and each month where you'll see several of your favorite actors answering a variety of questions asked by the staff.
This month's question is:
"What do you want to happen in 2012?"

"In 2012 I want the people of the World to learn to respect each other's differences."

"In 2012 I'd like to have my own TV show. Traveling would be amazing too. I've always wanted to go to Disneyworld and I'd also like to book a job that would film in Hawaii. Booking a job with my sister Merit where we actually got to play sisters would be really fun."

"In 2012 I would like the following to happen:
Score more than 10 touchdowns in football
Book a new pilot or a TV show
Get to travel to some cool places like New York and Hawaii for some photo shoots!"

"I would love to cintinue acting. A movie would be wonderful or a tv show. I'd also like to continue doing well in school !! "

"I want to have 'clean up the beach' day at least once a month- it'll be a day that my family and my friends go to the beach and have a great time but help our planet too- it'll be a dog beach so my puppy Georgie can come too- I figured it's getting a lot of important things accomplished at once!"

"For 2012 Brooklyn would love to: "Be called back to play Emma more for General Hospital, go on more auditions, play with her sister, go to dance school, give away some of her toys to other children & ride a pony & a unicorn!!!"

"Well, I hope I can book a big movie that films in another state or country. That would be so fun. I want to go to Paris for a vacation to see the Eiffel Tower and eat some crepes too. "

"In 2012 I want One Life to Live start again or I want to work with Bree Willamson again. "
Thank-you so much to Danielle, Marlowe, Tanner, Saoirse, Natalie, Brooklyn, TJ, and Stephanie for participating!

Tween Girl Style Magazine Interview!
Emily Alyn Lind was named one of the 10 Most Beautiful and Promising Up-and-Coming Child Actors on imdb.com. This 9-year-old has already established a very impressive resume! Her credits includes playing “Amanda Clarke” in the hit series “Revenge” and this past Christmas playing the voice of “Grace Goodwin” in Pixar’s “Prep & Landing: Naughty v. Nice.”
Emily also portrayed “Shirley Temple” in Oscar contender “J. Edgar,” and she completed a starring role as “Maggie Gyllenhaal’s” daughter in the feature film, “Learning to Fly.” Her Mom Barbara Alyn Woods and both of her sisters, Natalie and Aly are also actresses! Emily is a very busy tween! We asked Emily to share with us how she balances her life as a child star, charity work in the Make a Wish foundation and fun time!
How do you balance being a young actress? How do you fit in school, friends and fun time and what are your favorite things to do in your free time?
Well – I don’t have a lot of free time where I have absolutely nothing to do. My life is pretty full but I like it that way. I have friends who understand that I work a lot of the time. But when we get together, it’s extra special. I like having friends who are not in the business so we’re not always talking about auditions or working. My sisters are my best friends and we play together a lot – we like to make our own movies – we write them, act in them, direct them, edit them — it’s so much fun. I work a lot, but my Mom always makes sure that we have a lot of “kid” time too.
Currently you are working on the set of “Revenge”, can you tell us about your character and that experience?
I play “Amanda Clarke” who is the younger version of Emily Van Camp’s character. Sometimes we see Amanda having fun on the beach when she was a really happy little girl. But recently I’ve been given some juicy scenes where we get to see why Amanda is seeking revenge. Some of my scenes are pretty intense – I LOVE that!
The show is so much fun to work on. Emily and Madeline and the rest of the cast are really great. I feel lucky to be on such a good show and I love going to work every day.

Bella Thorne & Zendaya 'Apply It Up'
Zendaya and Bella Thorne show off their skills in this new, exclusive still from Shake It Up.
In tonight’s episode “Apply It Up,” Cece (Thorne) and Rocky (Zendaya) both get into the prestigious Chicago Fine Arts Academy, but only Cece is offered a scholarship, forcing the girls to figure out a way for them both to attend.
Meanwhile, Flynn (Davis Cleveland) and Henry believe that an asteroid is headed towards Earth
JJJ Fun Fact: The song that plays during the audition is Zendaya! It’s called “Something to Dance For.”

New Layouts
As we all know, this month marks the last episode of One Life to Live. So many memories, laughs, tears, and how awesome has it been watching Austin Williams and the Sullivan girls grow in the roles they originated several years ago? It has been such a joy to watch our current kid cast Austin Williams, Andrew Trischitta, Stephanie Schmahl, Patrick Gibbons Jr, Molly Madeline & Tess Sullivan, Christian & Gavin McGinely, and Matthew & Nicholas Urbanowicz/Cory & Dominick as the drama of Llanview unfolded. We are sad to have to say goodbye, there is so much story left to be told (and for AMC too), and it doesn't seem real. We have decided to put up a layout set featuring our kids of One Life to Live, the main showcasing all of our current kids, and the gallery featuring images from the Daytime Stars and Strikes events and an image of Andrew and Patrick at the wrap party. We'd like to thank Marie of Frontier Designs for putting these together and we hope everyone loves them as much as we do!
